The most dangerous fishing net in the ocean may be the one nobody knows is there.

Lost.

Abandoned.

Forgotten.

Yet still trapping marine life every single day.

Known as ghost gear, discarded fishing nets, lines, and traps continue to “fish” long after they have been lost at sea. Invisible beneath the surface, they become deadly obstacles for sea turtles, dolphins, whales, sharks, seabirds, and countless other species.

A turtle becomes entangled.

A dolphin cannot surface.

A reef is smothered.

And the cycle repeats.

What makes ghost gear particularly devastating is its persistence.

Unlike organic materials, modern fishing gear is often made from durable plastics designed to withstand harsh marine conditions. The same durability that makes these materials effective for fishing allows them to remain in the ocean for decades, sometimes centuries.

Over time, the problem multiplies.

🌊 Marine animals become trapped and injured.

🪸 Coral reefs and critical habitats are damaged.

🐟 Fish populations are affected through ongoing ghost fishing.

🔬 Plastics fragment into microplastics that enter marine food webs.

This is not simply an ocean pollution issue.

It is a systems challenge.

Protecting marine ecosystems requires more than cleanup campaigns. It requires better gear design, improved tracking technologies, stronger recovery programs, expanded recycling infrastructure, and greater collaboration across the fishing industry.

Because healthy oceans are not just about wildlife.

They regulate our climate.

They support global food security.

They sustain economies and livelihoods.

They generate over half of the oxygen we breathe.

The Video of a rescued turtle reminds us that every piece of plastic entering the ocean carries consequences far beyond what we can see.

The question is not whether we can afford to protect our oceans.

The question is whether we can afford not to.

I’m pinning this post because no other artist has influenced my life in the way Stevie Nicks has.

Stevie is not just a musician and singer to me. She is an atmosphere. A woman who walked into an industry built to diminish women and somehow turned vulnerability, heartbreak and mysticism into one of the most unmistakable artistic identities of all time.

She is, like all of us, only human and has had demons in her life she had to overcome and she always managed to come up stronger against adversity.

That unique voice and musical vision of hers did something to an entire generation of women. And there after- as her music is timeless!

It gave us permission to be strange, emotional, powerful, romantic, furious and completely ourselves all at once. You hear Stevie once and you know exactly who she is.

Very few artists ever achieve that kind of alchemy.

And this quote? God. Every woman over a certain age understands it in her bones.

“You just have to walk into the room and be fearless.”

Exactly that right there ! Thank you for the music, the poetry, the magic and the reminder to never make ourselves smaller to keep other people comfortable.

Damon teamed up with Grammy winning producer Hit-Boy, stepped into the studio, and recorded his own rap verses.

Some people think it’s hilarious.
