There’s something about Virginia Key after sunset.

The ocean gets darker.
The music gets louder.
And suddenly everybody starts acting like the main character in their own little movie.

Shoes filled with sand.
Voices gone from singing.
Memories made somewhere between the shoreline and the speakers.

maybe soulmates are just people
who feel oddly familiar
the first night you meet them

like your nervous system recognizes
something before your brain does

like standing in a crowded room
and somehow landing in the exact conversation
you were supposed to have that night

i think soulmates are less about permanence
and more about timing

two people arriving at the same emotional address
at the exact same moment

even if only briefly

some soulmates stay forever

some only stay long enough
to change the temperature of your life a little

like a song you heard once at 2am
that somehow still follows you years later

there’s something terrifying
about meeting someone
that feels like home

especially when you weren’t looking for one

soulmate is such a dramatic word

but then again
so is hearing one song together
and suddenly never forgetting each other

maybe soulmates aren’t found

maybe they’re recognized

i like the idea that somewhere tonight
two strangers will accidentally become a memory
they carry for the next ten years

some people kiss you

some people alter your internal dialogue

everyone wants a soulmate

but nobody talks about how strange it feels
when you actually meet someone
and your body goes

“oh
there you are”
