On Tuesday September 29th, I'll join some of the best #musicians I know to take the stage at St. Peter's Church as the #MemphisJugBand -- with @vurnt22 as music director -- in a jazz memorial to honor my mentor and my friend harmelodic guitar icon #JamesBloodUlmer, who passed away a few months ago, in June. Sky. NOW. Unfiltered 6:18a EST 09/25/26 Friday, pre nor’easter. Stay safe. Stay dry. This is the first of these I’ve done in awhile, because the pace of development on the northern Shaolin shore has removed my preferred shooting spot. Ten years ago, the National Museum of African American History and Culture opened its doors in Washington, D.C. We were proud and honoredto be there and to be part of a moment that was a long time coming. Black history is American history. The music, the art, the struggle, the innovation, the resistance and the joy — it’s all part of the same story. It’s a story that has always informed who we are and the music we make. Looking back at these photos ten years later, we’re reminded of how much it meant to stand there and celebrate the opening of a place dedicated to making sure those stories are told, preserved and passed on. Happy 10th anniversary to the @NMAAHC. Keep telling the stories.
