I haven’t been on instagram for a while so the announcements are gonna keep rolling in!

my heart is swelling with joy to announce OTTO AND THE STORY TREE!

Otto is a lonely old bird. He lives in a dark dusty old house. He could sweep the floor but: Ack! What’s the point! He never has visitors anyway. One night, a seed spills out of his dinner bowl, and lonely as he is, Otto begins to tell it of the thrilling adventures of his younger years. The next morning the seed has become a spout…

A love letter to the magic of storytelling and connection, this book has been so many years in the making. It is a true representation of my imagination set free and it feels so exciting (and a little bit scary) to unleash a book that is so “me” on this world for the first time!

thank you to everyone at @randomhousestudio who took a chance on my little story, and had such wonderful notes and insights into how to make it the best it could be! I so loved working with you Annie, Paula, and Rachael!

And also thank you to Anne at Bright, nearly two years ago to the day I got the email that OTTO would be a book!

my author illustrated debut comes out spring next year, and is already available for pre-order, link in bio. by @vvberger

mary shelley is really having a moment after @gdtreal Frankenstein came out (which is beautiful and wonderful and immediately made me stare at a wall for a few hours after)

this is a drawing I painted of her a few years ago, and still one of my favorites ever. she was the coolest gothest (carrying around your dead husbands heart? hellooooooo) lady and I love her.

have you seen the movie yet?

Bell plays the spirit trumpet with the October Group at her first seance!

a spooky sample for a new manuscript I’ve been working on called The Haunting Day! It’s the first ghost story I’ve written and I really hope this world finds its home in a book someday.

Instagram really doesn’t do this format justice so scroll for some details! by @vvberger

Your magic hands that create worlds, bring stories to life, and give voice to weird and wonderful characters, might need a little TLC. Here’s some things you can do to make drawing not hurt narrated by your neighborhood gym ghost!

Pls only stretch as far as feels good, and don’t push your body into any positions that hurt!

I’ll be back with part two on how to make those magic hands so strong you’ll still be drawing on the inside of your coffin! Desk shrimps unite!
