NO MORE MIGRANT PRISONS - THESE WALLS MUST FALL! SIGN THE PETITION TODAY!

We demand an immediate stop to the huge expansion of Haslar and Campsfield detention centres, part of the government’s plans to increase detention capacity across the UK by 40%. This government is continuing to prioritise the construction of more detention spaces, ignoring the devastating impact it has on individuals and communities.

We refuse to stand by while the government expands a system that subjects more people to fear, uncertainty and dehumanisation. The harm of detention reaches far beyond the centres themselves. It affects families, friends and whole communities, changing how people live, trust, love and feel safe, while those around them are often left carrying the consequences long after detention ends.

It is time for Andy Burnham and Shabana Mahmood to stand up, reject the politics of anti-migrant hostility and choose the side of compassion and justice.

No more migrant prisons, no more separation of families, no more communities living with the fear and harm of detention and immigration enforcement.

We all deserve to live, work, love and build our lives in safety and dignity.

Important information ahead of the counter-demo, this Saturday 26th September ‼️

Far-Right Thug Danny Tommo is spearheading a new shift in far-right violence, leading a group of street thugs through the streets of Dover, Portsmouth, and London.

Last night, he slashed a lifeboat containing a group of Asylum Seekers as well as a lifeguard volunteer. This is a man who already has a conviction for knife crime, as well as attempted kidnapping, and is directing a step-up in the violence shown by the Far-Right.

These issues are not isolated, and his supporters will no-doubt attempt to recreate this violence locally if they feel confident enough to do so.

We’ve seen this before with the pogrom at the Manvers Hotel, when a group of fascist thugs attempted to burn the hotel down with refugees inside. The people of South Yorkshire responded with an insurgence of anti-racist activity which kept the Far-Right Off Our Streets.

It is crucial that the Far-Right are opposed at every turn, to make sure that they aren’t able to organise or build locally.

Join us This Saturday 26th September to ensure that local racists Raise The Colours are reminded once again that we are many, and they are few. 💪

‼️ COUNTER DEMO ALERT ‼️

Next Saturday 26th September, we will unite as one community— to say no to division and hate.

Sheffield has a proud tradition of standing together every time the Far Right try to organise in the city. We need everyone out once again to make sure that they don’t build locally - whether that’s in Sheffield or South Yorkshire.

This Saturday, we'd love for you to join us for the official launch of the Dr Pious Nyandoro Campaign
📅 Saturday 12 September
🕚 11am–5pm (feel free to drop by for any amount of time!)
📍 SADACCA, 48 Wicker, Sheffield, S3 8JB
🔗 Link to register in bio

Rooted in Pious’s life, work, solidarity and memory and shaped by the recent and tragic passing of our beloved comrade and former RJN trustee, Professor Jason Arday, this campaign seeks to turn remembrance into collective action.

As we remember both Pious and Jason, we want to create space to reflect together on *Black grief, racialised dehumanisation, and the political conditions in which our communities live and experience loss.*

At the launch, we’ll share the campaign’s aims, introduce our living campaign blueprint, and invite those present to help shape where the work goes next.

Expect food, time to connect, movement building, a roundtable discussion, storytelling, and collective discussion of the campaign blueprint.

Any questions, drop us a message

Tomorrow 12pm Sheffield Town Hall and SADACCA ~ Sacred Golden Pod Breaking Ceremony🍫

The Ceremony marks World Chocolate Day, in memory of Dr Pious Nyandoro, reflecting on memory, migration, resilience and colonialism, through cocoa. The event is the next step in the campaign for justice for Pious. We will expose why we know Belgium and Swiss chocolate, but not the names of Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon or The Ivory Coast, who produce the cocoa.
The event is free, will begin at 12 as a march with African Royals, drummers and dancers, through the city to the Town Hall, to greet the mayor. There is then a reflective ceremony in the Town Hall which there is limited free tickets for.
Please see the link in bio to register.

At its centre will be one simple but powerful act:
the ceremonial breaking of a golden cocoa pod.
But this is not simply a ceremony about chocolate.
It is about people.
It is about the people whose hands cultivate cocoa but whose names and stories are too often absent from the chocolate we consume.
It is about the histories of colonialism, extraction and migration carried between Africa and Britain.
And, in Sheffield this year, it is about remembering a man whose life insisted that people pushed to the margins must never be rendered nameless.

We ask....
What if a cocoa pod could speak?
Whose hands would it remember?
Whose journeys would it carry?
And whose names have disappeared by the time cocoa becomes the chocolate we consume?

It would be amazing to have you there. Please could you share or invite with members of your community who would value this event

Let us know if you have any questions.

11 days ago, Eve and Jake completed #5MarathonsIn5Days for Mental Health, Solidarity and Justice. This video gives a glimpse of the incredible community that came together to make the challenge possible.

🫂 30 people (and 2 dogs) joined them.
🥾 Together, they walked 584.26 miles in solidarity (equivalent to over 22 marathons).
🤝 24 organisations from across the country supported the challenge, alongside countless individuals, pubs, cafés and businesses who welcomed walkers as Sanctuary Stops.
🙏🏼 Thank you to everyone who has donated, shared, encouraged, cooked, hosted, and joined the walkers on the route.

From the send-off at The Sanctuary, through the beautiful Peak District and local Sanctuary Stops, to the final miles into Sheffield and the community meal. Every part of this challenge was shaped by people coming together.

We all walked in #solidarity for Dr Pious Nyandoro, for everyone whose lives are harmed by a dehumanising asylum system, and for a future where people seeking sanctuary can live with dignity, safety and hope.

But we still need your help. We have over £2,000 left to raise to reach our £12,000 target. After everything this #fundraiser has achieved, let's reach (and smash) it. 🎯

Our most recent blog post features an intimate commemoration and reflection as we approach the first anniversary of the transitioning of our late Comrade, Dr Pious Nyandoro.

The piece reflects on his passing as a symptomatic failure of a system that continues to shape whose lives are seen as worthy of dignity, protection, and remembrance. It forces readers to ask questions such as: How has Europe succeeded in presenting itself as the global guardian of democracy and human rights while simultaneously operating one of the world's most repressive, hostile immigration regimes? In addition to asking readers to question whether we have become so institutionalised in the management of suffering that we no longer recognise the need to challenge the political systems that drive and perpetuate it?

Most pointedly, the blog calls on us to continue the work to which our Comrade Dr Nyandoro devoted his life: truth-telling, political education and collective resistance.

🎉We officially completed #5marathons5days for Mental Health, Solidarity and Justice, July 28th-August 1st 2026! People and community power held us through this incredible experience, traversing over 4 Ben Nevis' in height 🥾💫 Every step was resistance against the system that killed our late friend and comrade Dr Pious Nyandoro, who's anniversary nears. Rest in Power, 15/3/77~10/8/2025

🫂Thank you to every single person, organisation, venue and business who has donated and made this challenge possible. With your generosity, encouragement, logistical support and care, we were able to cross the finish line for our finale community meal at @sheffieldcityofsanctuary

🐕30 people and 2 dogs joined us to walk over a staggering 584.26 miles in solidarity with freedom seekers and the impact of the migration system on mental health, supported by 24 organisations. We shared Pious' story and those like him, raising awareness of the intentional cruelty of policies that harm migrants and confronted misinformation and propaganda against our migrant communities

🔗We are so close to our fundraising target, with an incredible nearly £9000 donated so far. Every share or donation no matter how small will help us smash our target, to help recover the community funds used for Pious' repatriation and funeral costs, commission a mural in his memory and support VVIDY, an organisation he co-founded. Follow the link in bio to find out more about the cause and our challenge💜

This challenge tested out physical and mental limits, but we walked for Pious, system change and hope👣follow to continue this journey for justice with us

Together, our power is limitless

🚨 CALL TO ACTION!

Last August, our community lost beloved brother, organiser, scholar and friend, Dr. Pious Nyandoro. Pious was a freedom fighter active in the Solidarity Knows No Borders community, a co-founder of @vvidysheffield and a trustee of @assistsheffield.

A freedom seeker for 20 years, Pious endured precarity, violence & destitution that took a toll on his mental health. His death was NOT an accident—it was the direct result of immigration policies designed to destroy lives.

RIGHT NOW, Pious's friends Eve and Jake are on a mission to walk 5 marathons in 5 days to honour Pious and recover the cost of his repatriation back to his home country, Zimbabwe. (That’s 130 miles and 5,500m of ascent, almost the equivalent of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro!⛰️)

Every mile is a refusal. Every step is an act of solidarity. 🚨 Here’s how you can help:

💸 DONATE any amount (in our bio). We’re already halfway to our £12k 🎯 - let’s get to 100%!

🗣️ SHARE this to help spread the word

🔔 FOLLOW @vvidy @assistsheffield to cheer on Eve and Jake at every milestone

🥾 JOIN Eve and Jake on Saturday for the last 2 miles, leading to a celebration and community meal! (swipe for details)
