📌 Save this temple for your next North Bali trip!

Escaping the busy tourist spots led me to this incredible Buddhist temple in North Bali—it looks like something straight out of a history book! Similar to Borobudur in Yogyakarta but smaller, this place is definitely worth a visit. And the best part? It even has a Heaven’s Gate—with no crowds! 💁🏻‍♀️💁🏻‍♀️

💡Good to know: this place doesn’t allow drones, however we asked the venue and they gave us permission to fly for a short moment. Isn’t it worth it? 😍😍

Rainy season is getting closer, but right now Bali is still seeing plenty of sunshine, hot days and drier conditions 🌴

A very strong El Niño is currently affecting Indonesia, which can mean less rainfall and a later transition into the wetter season in some areas.

🌦️ Rain is still possible
☀️ Plenty of sunny days
🥵 Hot & humid
🌴 Still feeling very much like dry season in parts of Bali

So if you’re coming to Bali this October, don’t pack for nonstop rain just yet 👀

💡 Good to know: The extra sunshine might be great for travellers, but Bali also needs the rain. Longer dry periods can mean less water for farming, everyday use and can increase the risk of fires and air-quality problems. So hopefully some rain is coming soon 🙏🌧️🌾

🫡 One thing nobody prepares you for in Bali: falling in love with the dogs you meet everywhere 🥹🐶

So yes… you might come to Bali for the beaches, but somehow leave knowing every neighborhood dog 😂🤎

🐾 Good to know: Bali dogs have lived alongside local communities for thousands of years. Many dogs you see roaming freely actually have families or are cared for by locals, while others are genuinely stray or abandoned.

There are still many dogs in need and overpopulation, abandonment and unwanted puppies remain a challenge. Local organizations work on rescue, sterilization, care and adoption, but there is still a lot of work to be done. 🤎

I really love this island ❤️🇮🇩 But loving a place doesn’t mean that Bali isn‘t facing any challenges 😔

Lately, I’ve heard more and more from friends and locals about some of the issues Bali is dealing with. Waste, traffic, rapid development, infrastructure and pressure on the environment are complex problems with many causes. It’s not simply about locals or tourists.

⚠️ This post isn’t about blaming anyone. And of course, these challenges can’t be solved simply by tourists being more aware 🤷🏻‍♀️ we’re only one part of the picture, but as visitors, we can still do our part by understanding the issues, making better choices where we can, reducing unnecessary waste, driving responsibly and respecting the island and its culture🌴

As Bali grows, I hope things keep improving for local communities while protecting what makes the island so special 🙏❤️

Don’t book your manta tour in Nusa Penida, Bali before knowing THIS 👀

🐠 1. You can see mantas year round
There’s no specific manta season. But sightings are never guaranteed. They’re wild animals.

📍 2. Manta Point ≠ Manta Bay
They’re different spots. Manta Point is the famous cleaning station and generally has better chances of seeing mantas. Check where your tour actually goes.

🌊 3. Check the weather & ocean conditions
Strong currents, swell and big waves can make snorkeling dangerous. Calmer conditions are much better. The boat ride can also get rough, so take seasickness medication beforehand if you need it.

🛟 4. Not a strong swimmer? Be extra careful
The water can be deep and currents strong. Wear a life jacket, stay close to your guide and don’t get in if conditions feel too rough. There have been fatal drownings around Nusa Penida, including incidents involving strong currents, so take the ocean seriously.

🥶 5. The water can be surprisingly cold
Cold water upwellings mean the water can feel much colder than you’d expect in Bali. A rash guard or wetsuit can help.

😳 6. They’re HUGE, but not dangerous
Reef manta rays can have a wingspan of several metres, but they’re gentle filter feeders and don’t have a venomous stinger like stingrays.

🚫 7. Never chase or touch the mantas
Keep your distance, don’t swim after them for a photo and never block their path. Let them come to you.

⏰ 8. Go early if you can
Manta spots can get very crowded with boats and swimmers later in the morning. An early tour can make the experience much nicer.

Your Bali personality is basically decided by WHERE you stay 😂🌴

In one area, you’re sitting in traffic just to get a matcha. In another, you’re disappearing into the jungle for a “reset.” And somewhere else, you’re watching the sunset wondering why everyone is still fighting for a table in Canggu.

Obviously, these are stereotypes… but some are suspiciously accurate 👀
