Officially walked the stage today, remember not thinking I would make it. Remember dropping out and having to bounce back. These 3 years made me and helped me find myself, I thank God for getting me through, don’t know where I’d be without Him!🎓🙏🏿 📸: @fredjz._ by @waa1tt

A heartfelt thank you to HBCU Elite @hbcueliteorg for trusting Apollo Sports Counseling with the mental health component of this year’s camp. It was truly an honor to educate and empower the top 24 HBCU women’s basketball players in the nation, helping them strengthen not only their game, but also their minds.

Damian Traylor, Kamri Gilbert, Walter Ray, and BJ Armstead, had the privilege of leading conversations on mental health, stress management, resilience, bouncing back from adversity, and mental performance. One of the most meaningful discussions centered around personal identity versus athletic identity—understanding that who you are extends far beyond the game of basketball. Your value is not determined by your statistics, your playing time, or the name on the front of your jersey.

We’re grateful to HBCU Elite for recognizing that investing in an athlete’s mental well-being is just as important as developing their physical abilities. Thank you for creating an environment where these incredible young women could grow, reflect, and leave with tools that will serve them both on and off the court.

The future of HBCU athletics is bright, and we’re honored to have played a small role in the journey. 💜🏀🧠

Yesterday at Suwanee Sports Academy, our team had an incredible opportunity to connect with young athletes and their families through the power of sport and mental performance.

Mental toughness isn’t just about working hard—it’s about staying focused when distractions show up. Throughout the day, athletes were challenged to lock in under pressure, whether it was beating the buzzer or stepping to the free-throw line with a prize on the line. The goal was simple: stay focused, trust yourself, and perform despite the distractions around you.

We had great conversations with parents, gave away wristbands and cards, and continued spreading awareness about the importance of mental health and mental performance in athletics. It was also a pleasure watching some outstanding basketball and volleyball throughout the event.

A special shoutout to Apollo Sports Counseling interns Walter Ray and Poddy Adieze, who did a fantastic job engaging with athletes and families throughout the day. Proud to have them representing our mission. BJ Armstead was also on hand helping educate, connect, and support the next generation of athletes.

A huge thank you to Suwanee Sports Academy @suwaneesportsacademy and HoopSeen @hoopseen for allowing us to be part of such a great event. We truly enjoyed every moment and look forward to continuing to serve athletes and families throughout our community.

The future is bright. 🧠🏆

TRUST YOUR GAME. 🏀💯

Today, the Apollo Sports Counseling team had the opportunity to speak with the Shiloh High School Basketball Program about building self-confidence and quieting overthinking.

Walter Ray, Damyon Traylor, Jonathan Poole, and BJ Armstead challenged these athletes to understand that confidence doesn’t come from making every shot, winning every game, or being perfect. Confidence comes from preparation, repetition, and trusting the work you’ve already put in.

Too many athletes allow one mistake, one missed shot, or one bad game to shake their belief in themselves. The athletes who perform at their highest level learn how to stay present, trust their training, and avoid getting trapped in their own thoughts.

The goal isn’t to play a perfect game. The goal is to trust your game.

Thank you to Coach and the entire Shiloh Basketball family for allowing Apollo Sports Counseling to invest in the next generation of athletes and leaders. The future is bright. 🚀

Tomorrow, we head to Shiloh High School to invest in the next generation of student-athletes. 🏀

Apollo Sports Counseling interns Walter Ray and Damyon Traylor will be leading a session entitled “Trust Your Game: Building Self-Confidence and Quieting Overthinking.”

Talent isn’t enough when doubt, fear, and overthinking get in the way. Confidence is a skill, and tomorrow these young men will learn practical tools to trust their preparation, silence negative self-talk, and compete with freedom.

Proud of Walter and Damyon for stepping into leadership and making an impact through mental performance education.

Shiloh Basketball — we’re looking forward to seeing you tomorrow at 12 PM.
