“One must be a good person if one looks up at the sky several times a day,” a friend once
told me, noticing how often my gaze drifted upward. His words stayed with me, yet what
held me longer was the sky itself — this seemingly empty expanse that, at the same time,
felt full of quiet secrets.
I began to ask it questions.
The answers came in colors: Blue for yes, red for no. To my most intricate questions, it
responded with its most luminous hues. Slowly,I started to engage with the beings that
revealed themselves in the clouds, encounters that felt like small, unexpected moments of
happiness.
I wanted to carry this process into painting: to open a space of play and discovery. „Das
Lächeln eines Schattens“ (The smile of a shadow) marks my first painterly encounter with
one of many such beings.
The sky, to me, is an open sign: a surface for projection, an abyss, a promise. In certain
moments, something emerges that might be described as resonance: a quiet reply from
the world.
An empty space in which countless possibilities lie dormant, the gentle suspension of
ambiguity. Or perhaps it is simply a way of playing with something fleeting, a form of
happiness that can barely be held.
