WHY YOU NEED TO INCORPORATE SINGLE LEG WORK

1. Almost all movements you perform everyday happen one leg at a time. Walking, running, skating, jumping everything happens off of one leg. It seems more logical that your training should be closer to the movements that you want to improve.

2. It corrects muscle imbalances. One of the same reasons people use dumbbells for their upper body should be the same reason why you incorporate single leg movements for your lower body. Squats, leg press and other compound 2 leg movements usually start to favor a certain leg or muscle group, which over time can lead to injury and poor performance. By incorporating single leg movements you can ensure that your legs are close enough in size and coordination to provide the necessary power output to boost strength and reduce injury.

3. Improves your balance tremendously. By performing single leg movements, weighted or unweighted, they all test your ability to stay on one leg throughout an athletic movement which challenges your balance in a way you don’t necessarily do in your typical leg day.

Obviously if your goal is only to build size in your legs or build your back squat strength you should be doing a lot of 2 leg movements, but adding a few single leg movements to your routine can definitely help boost your stability and mind muscle connection. by @wack.training

Here’s why

1. Builds real endurance, not just runner fitness: Running only trains your legs and lungs. Pushups after force your upper body and core to perform under fatigue, turning you into a more complete athlete.
2. Improves posture and running efficiency: A stronger upper body and core help you stay upright and controlled, especially late in runs when form usually breaks down.
3. Forces you to finish strong, every time: Instead of coasting at the end, you build a habit of ending workouts with effort. That mindset carries over into races, lifts, and everything else.
