Before I was a bookseller, I was a speech pathologist who worked with dementia patients. So combining my love of narrative nonfiction with a fascinating look at a family with an inherited positive gene for a fronto-temporal lobe dementia…you couldn’t tear my eyes away from the pages. I first fell in love with Kolker‘s writing in Hidden Valley Road, that introduced the reader to a family with an inordinate about of schizophrenics, and this book was just as compelling. I loved the deeply human elements of the book along with the research on various brain diseases. Don’t skip this one! Out in a few weeks. PREORDER @fabledbookshop by @wacoreads

Happy pub day to one of my favorite historical fictions of the year! I loved the post World War I timeline and @elizabethletts never disappoints. The action takes place between Morocco and France. Make sure to read the authors note about her husband‘s family relationship shepherds in Morocco! I was so invested in all of the characters (including a horse!) and couldn’t recommend this book more highly. Copies @fabledbookshop by @wacoreads

Every August you will find me running to pick up the latest from @thrillerchick. She is the queen of domestic noir and a favorite author both on and off the page. I own nearly all her books in my personal library! I am always treated to a smart and suspenseful story and so invested in the characters. Imagine my surprise and utter delight to see my name in the acknowledgements. I’m shocked and thrilled every day by my job in this industry I love. I’ll confess my ignorance: until this spring, I had no idea that an exceptional indie bookstore, @fabledbookshop, stood halfway between Dallas and Austin, or that Elizabeth Barnhill (@wacoreads) had cultivated an enthusiastic and engaged community of book lovers in Waco. At my reading at Fabled this week, I met people who had traveled from as far as Houston, Dallas, Austin, and San Marcos to be there — a testament to Elizabeth and the incredible work she’s doing.

I first met Elizabeth in San Antonio this spring at a book convention, and she immediately became one of my book’s biggest supporters. I’m so grateful to her and to everyone who turned out to the reading, especially @jalloatx, who drove me from Austin so we could finally have some moments alone to catch up. Thank you to the entire staff at Fabled, who made me feel so welcome. ❤️ by @wacoreads

What an AMaZING event with award winning journalist @pamela_colloff tonight at Fabled! Catch the Devil is one of the best books I have read this year and I believe should be required reading for Americans! Pamela shines a light on injustice in our legal system, specifically the use of jailhouse snitches to procure convictions, but does so in such a compelling and deeply human way. Pick up a signed copy @fabledbookshop and recommend for your next book club choice! An absolute do not miss read. by @wacoreads

This book was absolute Prozac for my Booklover soul! @katieclaphamwriting regales the reader with thoughts and conversations from a year of owning her bookshop in a dreamy seaside town in England. I laughed out loud at some of the conversations both overt and overheard as I have experienced many of these myself. Overall, it’s a reminder of my good fortune to work in the business and I couldn’t think of a better day spent than in the pages of this gem that releases in September. I have been an @ariel.lawhon fan since the very beginning and her books continue to amaze, entertain, and educate me about interesting times and people in history. Her latest takes us to Ireland in the 1500s and introduces the reader to Grace O’Malley (Grainne ni Mhaille) the Pirate Queen. She was a contemporary of Queen Elizabeth 1st and the two met briefly when Grace needed a royal favor. Very little is known of Grace and Lawhon brings her to life in a beautiful way, telling her story in the three parts of her life as a Maiden, Mother and Matriarch. Highly recommend this 5 star read out in September! Preorder @fabledbookshop by @wacoreads

We had such a great event for @jstone_writer at @fabledbookshop last night to celebrate his debut novel, The Beauty of the Days Gone By.
