She didn’t just design gowns. She designed legacy.
Zelda Wynn Valdes was one of the first Black women to own a boutique in New York City, dressing icons and creating space for Black designers in an industry that tried to exclude them.

Fast facts: Trad goth isn’t just an aesthetic, it’s a whole subculture with deep roots in the post-punk scene of the late ’70s and ’80s. I chose to start with 80s trad goth because I wanted to understand where the look came from before recreating it. Going through the different goth subcultures made me realize how much the fashion, music, makeup, and self-expression evolved while still connecting back to the same underground roots. 🖤🥀

Doing the research before sitting down in front of the mirror made bringing this look to life so much more rewarding. Consider this Phase 1 of officially ushering in Halloween season 🎃⚡️
