With food prices rising and food benefits under threat, there are practical ways to stretch your grocery budget without compromising your health. Local Registered Dietitian Allison McKeany outlines how to make the most of the freezer isle, expand what you think of as a mealtime protein, use reverse meal planning, and reduce, reuse, and repurpose the food you already have.

Growing Hunger in the Valley “Food Insecurity & Why It's Getting Worse” by Allison McKeany, MS, RD

Read Part 1 of 3 on our BLOG: wakeupsonoma.org/blogs

"We live in one of the most celebrated food regions in the world, drawing visitors from around the globe. And yet, right now, between 7,000 and 8,000 of our Sonoma Valley neighbors are experiencing food insecurity.

Food insecurity is not simply "being hungry." The USDA defines it as the lack of consistent access to enough nutritious food for a healthy life.

Stay tuned for the coming articles from Allison to learn more about how families and individuals can stretch their food benefits and grocery dollars and what each of us can do to make a real difference.

🇺🇸 One more look at a day to remember.

The music, the laughter, the waves from the sidewalks, the conversations, the dancing, the flags—it all reminded us what community looks like when people come together with hope and purpose.

Thank you to everyone who marched with Wake UP Sonoma, cheered us on, and helped make this Fourth of July celebration so special. We’re grateful to share this community with you.

Here’s the full parade experience. We hope it makes you smile as much as it did us.

🇺🇸 What a day.

From the first step to the final wave around the Plaza, this community showed up with joy, hope, and a commitment to the values that bring us together.

Thank you to everyone who marched, danced, cheered, handed out flags, candy, and pocket Constitutions, and reminded Sonoma that patriotism and peace can walk side by side.

Happy Fourth of July. Let’s carry that spirit forward.

Our hearts are full. ❤️🤍💙

To every volunteer who marched, danced, waved flags, handed out candy, shared pocket Constitutions, and helped spread a message of peace—thank you.

You showed up with joy, kindness, and the belief that community is something we build together.

Our “Give Peace a Chance” truck rolled through the parade, but it was you who brought it to life. Every smile, every wave, every conversation reminded us that patriotism can look like compassion, inclusion, democracy, and hope.

Thank you for representing Wake UP Sonoma with such energy and heart. We couldn’t have done it without you.

Here’s to more community, more connection, and more chances to choose peace. ✌️🇺🇸

🇺🇸 GIVE PEACE A CHANCE — THIS SATURDAY 🇺🇸

This Fourth of July, let’s celebrate America’s 250th birthday by lifting up one of our nation’s highest ideals: peace.

Imagine dozens of neighbors walking together through Sonoma’s historic Plaza in red, white, and blue with a simple message:

☮️ Peace with our neighbors.
☮️ Peace with the world.
☮️ Peace through democracy.
☮️ Peace as a patriotic act.

Bring your family. Bring your friends. Wear your best patriotic colors, add a little ’60s peace spirit, and help us fill the parade with hope, joy, and community.

The more people who walk, the more powerful the message.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Moms Club screening at the historic Sebastiani Theatre. In a time when so much of our lives happens through screens and social media, there is something incredibly meaningful about gathering in the same room, watching a story together, and having honest conversations afterward. That’s where real community is built.

A huge thank you to the Wake Up Sonoma team, and especially Lisa Storment, for believing in the film and making this event possible. Thank you to Michelle Dale for leading a thoughtful and engaging discussion after the screening, Josette & David Brose-Eichar for their generous hospitality, Jocelyn Simone for all of her marketing and PR efforts, Melania Mahoney for the photos, and Tony Ginesi and The Sebastiani Theatre for screening our film in your beautiful venue.

A special thank you to our incredible cast and crew. This film exists because of your courage, countless hours of work, and commitment to telling this story. The conversations that happened in Sonoma are a testament to everything you’ve poured into this project.

Stories have the power to bring people together. Conversations have the power to build understanding. And communities have the power to create change.

Thank you, Sonoma, for reminding us why we do this.

❤️
