Everyone at #BeechBluff, including Stella, is enjoying the last of this year's fresh summer crops from the park's agricultural areas. As the air gets a little more crisp and the days get a little bit shorter, the cold-season crops will be starting to appear, including beets, turnips, cabbage, and bok choy!

What summer crops will you be missing from your garden this fall and winter? 🌽

We monitor wildlife a number of different ways in the Wake County preserves. Nest box monitoring, trapping, and trail cameras are a few ways we collect species data. 🐟🦆🦌🦝

Have you ever been curious to see the species data we collect? Perhaps you’d like to know what plant or animal you might get to see when you visit ? You’re in luck! You can do exactly that visiting our Natural Resources Inventory Database (NRID):

Check out the vibrant new shade sails added to the playground at #BlueJayPoint County Park as park of the 2018 Bond for Parks, Greenways, Recreation and Open Space!

The park's playground is very popular, and can get HOT. These shade sails have been added to help reduce temps and give visitors a cool place to play.

Blue mistflower, like this one seen at #BeechBluff County Park, is a native perennial flower that blooms from late summer throughout fall. It is in the aster family, and bees and butterflies love its nectar. Add to your garden to attract native pollinators.

As Fall begins, you can still find some of our warmer weather critters like this Squirrel Treefrog at #LakeCrabtree County Park.🐸

These frogs are more common near the coast and are primarily nocturnal, so it's always a treat to see them at the park during the day. As the days get shorter and it gets colder through the fall, this treefrog, like all other amphibians and reptiles, will escape the cold weather by seeking shelter under things like logs or thick leaf litter.
