one year ago - saw switchfoot and little image at one of the coolest venues in existence, surrounded by gorgeous friends and cave smell 💕 we had silly shirts, got to stand on stage, got to catch up with friends and make new ones, and the show was even livestreamed.

hello and happy new year! long time no post...
anyone who knows me knows my two smooshie pups are my absolute life. i would do anything for maddie and luna. they're my babies!
.
maddie was supposed to have surgery today. unfortunately it had to be postponed by about a week. she has torn both of her ccls (the dog version of an acl) and will need a surgery to stabilise the joint in each hind leg. her left knee will be in a week, and after a month of bed rest, she will also have her right knee operated on. following that, she'll need another month of bed rest and then physical therapy.

i absolutely love this pooch and she's completely worth it, but it's still a worrying and stressful time for our family. but she's only about 5, so hopefully after her recovery she will be up and running again like the young dog she still is!
.
please keep her and our little family in your thoughts, and i'll keep you updated on how things go 💕

𝟷𝟽-𝟷𝟾 𝚓𝚞𝚕𝚢 & 𝟸𝟺 𝚊𝚞𝚐 𝟸𝟶𝟸𝟷 • 𝚏𝚒𝚗𝚊𝚕 𝚙𝚊𝚛𝚝

kelly and i got back to the cat whiz palace and ate some midnight pasta in our weirdly sunny kitchen. we laid on the floor and draped ourselves over chairs and made weird noises about what an incredible night we'd had. we scoured facebook and instagram for people's photos of the night. "we did that!!!" we kept shouting with joy.
it was so hard to bring ourselves to go to sleep and allow the day to be over. exhausted, smiles wide, and ears ringing, we sent ourselves off to bed with the buzz of these songs in our hearts.
.
i woke up the next morning with switchfoot songs stuck in my head, naturally. kelly and i packed up our belongings and she made some delicious pancakes for breakfast. we left before our 11am checkout, but weren't completely ready to leave nc yet, so we headed back to krankie's for some pre-road-trip caffeination.
finally, kelly and i pulled ourselves out of the cafe and gave each other a long parting hug. she headed to her car, i started to get into my own, and then i heard kelly calling my name from across the parking lot. she said jon just posted on his instagram story and we stood in the parking lot and watched it together. he had made an entire story about how we'd "punked" them!! and we left north carolina with a buzz. which was a good thing because i hit rain and heavy traffic for most of my drive. a few days later, he recounted the story again in the switchfoot newsletter, which gave me chills all over again.
.
i could talk and talk and talk about how much switchfoot means to me and how much this single weekend kept me going. but if you're here and you're still reading all this, you probably know all that already.
.
the new album is so earth-shatteringly good i can barely wrap my mind around it.
i feel so lucky to have met them in real life and to be allowed to share in these beautiful songs with them and the friends i've made through their community.
i do feel loved and cared for by the guys of switchfoot and their crew.
that show was so special for so many of us, and i'm elated that our community was able to make it special for them, too. taken in Winston-Salem, North Carolina by @wakeupmrcrow

butterflies from tummy to throat.
at the opening chords of 'where i belong' we held our breaths.

we scrambled, pulled out our flags,

and jon stopped singing.

time stood still.

he backed up and took it all in.
.
when jon finally came back to the mic, he choked out, "y'all are gonna make me cry in front of all these people."
.
i had full-body chills and tears in my eyes, and i know i wasn't alone. they pulled our flags up on the stage and finished the song, and held them when they took their final bow. it was shocking seeing them alternate between giant grins and fighting back tears, and i'm certain drew mouthed 'thank you' to bee.
of course they knew it was her gorgeous artwork by the sight of it.

they went out on that. tim collected some signs to keep, and jon walked off with our flags. i nabbed a set list.
.
we hung around to say hi to erick, david, and josh. acquaintances and strangers alike came to us to talk about our stunt. we wanted to give the guys something special, &were thrilled that resonated with so many.
.
an aftershow broke out by the buses. jon asked where we were and emerged from the crowd to talk to us. we hugged, he asked how we were doing. he asked about ky and was wondering why she wasn't there. he spent so much time with us, asking about our lives, and we thanked him so many times for the livestreams, the music, the community, the hope. after he left, drew and tim each came out and hugged us, took selfies, and talked like old friends.
