Before there was electronic dance music there was the fire, the circle, and the drums. Ecstatic dance is an ancient practice rooted in the simplicity of human nature to gather, sing & dance. A way to release, celebrate, heal, and reconnectโ€ฆ to ourselves, each other, and to a common source of creation :: ze Earth ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿช˜ This sound journey will weave together earthy, organic, worldly and bassy frequencies inspired by medicine music and the primal energy of nature, while still flowing through eclectic electronic soundscapes and freeform dance energy. ๐Ÿ”Š In a substance free space like this, we attune to and remember the power of frequency, soul, and sound to move energy, open the heart, and bring us into deeper presence and awareness of our connection as One within the natural harmony of creation. Come connect with the land, community, and your body this Sunday in Auburn Hills for our first outdoor dance this spring !โ˜€๏ธ There is indoor space depending on weather, but right now itโ€™s looking beautiful outside. This gathering will also serve as a fundraiser for the Shipibo tribes that @aaronsudo & @touch.of.ivy work with, and a percentage of profits will be donated in support of their communities and traditions. For those who want to continue vibing afterward, weโ€™ll also be hosting an optional movie night featuring a documentary on the Shipibo people. โœจ RSVP ticket link in our bios :: @touch.of.ivy @aaronsudo @wakeyourwaters ๐ŸŽถ Song :: Hara Hara by @sharethelight333 by @wakeyourwaters
JUNE 18TH ๐Ÿ’ซ๐Ÿ‰๐Ÿ”Š Wake Your Waters presents the first ever bass show happening at Andy Arts in Detroitโ€ฆ and we going BIG for my solar return celebration ๐Ÿœ‚ ๐ŸŒž Welcoming the incredible @_shelajit_ all the way from Maui for her Midwest tour alongside myself (( M.e. )) in support for an otherworldly night of experimental electronic + deep bass frequencies ๐ŸŒ€ This is not an ecstatic danceโ€ฆ but it will absolutely carry the energy of a conscious dance space. Featuring: ๐Ÿต Kava @senkava.detroit โœจ Body paint + glitter magic with @haussparkle ๐Ÿ”Š Void sound system @jtreelife & more tba June 18 โ€ข Detroit Doors 8 PM Tickets: $25 at the door @andyartcenter Would love your support on this one โ™ก Save the date & spread the word ๐ŸŒŠ by @wakeyourwaters
Our next ecstatic dance is more than just a dance! Itโ€™s also a fundraiser to support @loscielos.peru , a nonprofit healing center and sanctuary deep in the Peruvian Amazon, where Shipibo traditions, plant wisdom, reforestation, and cultural preservation are being actively protected and supported. The reel Iโ€™m sharing was taken inside the maloka at Los Cielos, the ceremonial space where so much prayer, music, transformation, and connection happens! While I was in love with the land, this maloka was ALIVE and I spent so much time connecting with her! I think thereโ€™s a really important conversation to be had around appreciation vs appropriation when it comes to indigenous wisdom and spiritual traditions. I donโ€™t believe we need to be born into a culture to deeply respect it and learn from it. Human beings have always shared stories, songs, medicines, rituals, and wisdom across cultures! But thereโ€™s a difference between learning from a culture with reverence, and extracting from it without giving anything back. Thereโ€™s a difference between being in relationship with something and consuming it. So this dance is one small way we want to give back to the Shipibo people and the traditions that have impacted so many lives, including our own. The main portion of the proceeds will go directly to Los Cielos and the work theyโ€™re doing to support indigenous communities, preserve ancestral plant medicine traditions, protect the Amazon, and continue rebuilding after major storm damage and forest loss. This will be our first outdoor ecstatic dance of the season on the land and I am SOOO ready for barefoot dancing under the sky again yay! The majority of the music for this dance will be medicine music inspired by the Amazon and indigenous traditions, but if youโ€™re unfamiliar with that world or unsure if itโ€™s your thing, @dancewithm.e._ is DJingโ€ฆ so trustttt me when I say itโ€™s still gonna be bassy + sexy! After the dance weโ€™ll head inside for a cuddly viewing of โ€œWoven Songs of the Amazon,โ€ a documentary sharing the stories, songs, healing traditions, and lives of Shipibo healers and culture bearers! Kids welcome! More info through the link in my bio ๐ŸŒฟ by @wakeyourwaters
