“Our Stripes, Our Stars” - Summer 2021

Most photographer regrets never come from the photos you’ve taken, instead from photos you wish you did. Earlier this year i drove out west with the intention of stopping in Denver, but due to an oil leakage i decided to cut the trip short. As soon as I parked my car to the closet mechanic in Nebraska, I turned to my left there he was sitting in his Pick Up truck. Knowing me I’d regret this situation if I didn’t at least ask for a photo. Now here I am walking up to a guy in a pick up truck in the middle of nowhere Nebraska, and as I frantically walk up to his car and explain to him the “DISPOSABLES” project I’m working on. Begrudgingly he smirks and agrees to be apart of it. While I’m using my light meter I tell him it would be awesome if he smiled, then he does the same half baked smirk he did in his car. As soon as I took the photo & I did his exact same smirk back to him, then he looks at me & for the first time in our conversation just bursts out smiling. // DISPOSABLES #filmphotography #portra400 #nikonfe taken in Omaha, Nebraska by @wale.nef

Lady, photographed in Miami, Florida 2020

At this time I’m walking back to the Bed & Drinks Hostel in South Beach, and a tinted Chevy Tahoe pulls up a block ahead of me. An agitated man dressed in an all-white linen suit proceeds to open the back doors as two 6’1 girls with ginormous Afros exit the car. As I’m walking past the Tahoe, one of the ladies says to me “Hey what kinda camera is that?” & I turned back around with this confused look that slowly turned to appreciation, as we stood outside talking about cameras & her desire to take on photography as a passion for what seemed like an eternity. I told her about this “DISPOSABLES” project I’m working on & if she’d love to be apart of it. With enthusiasm she agrees and I take this photograph of her. Ten minutes later the man in the linen suit grabs her by the wrist and says “it’s time, let’s go.” Before she leaves she says “What’s your Instagram? Maybe we can travel to a state together and shoot some photography?” Then I looked look at her, stuck my arm out & patted her outer tricep & say “don’t worry I’ll see you next lifetime.” Then walked away. Moral of the story: I gotta stop listening to Erykah Badu.
