“for the thorns that prick the rose”

There are moments when I close my eyes in light, and open them to darkness. In the period of readjustment, I find that peace, like silence sometimes, is as fleeting as the change of polarities. “for the thorns that prick the rose” is a visual / sonic work that feels like this phenomenon.

Thank you to @collabartsnyu for allowing me to foster the space as a canvas. Big thanks to prof. I wrote this song in Ghana, after working like 20hr internship weeks. Our compound was in Labone, and the recording studio was is Akweteyman, and it felt like every single day I got less rest than the day before. I was struggling with trusting God, knowing I was on his timing, and knowing I was making the right decisions. The days were so harsh I remember coming home and falling asleep in my work clothes lol. I pulled out my laptop at 1am, and started to write. Thank you for being open to conversations about God, Exhaustion, and Belief.

I don’t really have much to say lol. I started rapping in September 2023, because a girl I really loved broke my heart. IT”LL BE MAY BY NEXT WEEK is a culmination of moments and emotions in my life since last May 2023. I don’t really talk about my feelings with a lot of people. Sometimes I write in my journal, because it’s the only thing that listens late at night. This project is another journal entry.
