"Studio practice starts with unconfined creation, often an analog collage pinned and stuck together intuitively, layered or cut through allowing for future movement, change and reorganization. Scraps and pieces from other sessions make their way onto the board, rehearsing for a part in the whole. When a collage reaches a point of resolution, it transitions into the digital realm, where infinitesimal refinements can occur swiftly.

The act of painting, however, requires a delicate balance—both obeying and questioning habits, embracing conﬁdence while confronting fear. Often the compositions suggest the scale or format, vertical, rectangular, etc. A panel is made, the canvas is stretched and prepared, and the painting begins.

I like that the collage points me forward. It provides the direction for me to start, a tactile object that is not at all a painting, but a template for reinterpretation, a never-imagined object containing meaning, offering connections, and a chance to see something for the first time. The final painting emerges as another iteration—more certain, refined, and rooted in its origins—yet ready to express its elements in full voice."

This piece, “Silver Lining,” from my current show @walkerfineart is about finding the positive side of difficult times. It’s made from mica, a mineral with a naturally reflective, layered surface. It almost acts like a mirror. The layers remind me of the fragility of life, but they also have this incredible luminosity. And depending on the light, the mica catches and reflects it, creating a shifting experience of the work.

I find analogies in nature for things I’m experiencing in my own life. I like my symbols to have multiple meanings—to exist on several levels at once. This piece is simultaneously a monsoon of rain, a blue sky, and a cascade of teardrops. Rain and tears are what allows plants and ourselves to grow. Tears cleanse and every teardrop opens up new possibilities. These drops are also a reflection of the blue sky- a symbol of hope.

"My work embodies the concept of “castles in the sky,” or striving toward the impossible.

The clouds have sharp edges similar to the harsh exteriors of castles, yet they still evoke a certain cloudy softness and luminescence. I’m captivated by the idea of attempting the impossible because I believe anything is truly possible. It is through my paintings I wish to pass on to the viewer a moment of hope, serenity and meditation."
