We have received authorisation from the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) as an Authorised Electronic Money Institution (EMI)🇬🇧

A major milestone for us and one of the most important moments in our journey so far.

In practical terms, this means Wallester can continue building its local business from inside one of the world’s most important financial markets as a regulated entity.

As our CEO and Co-Founder Sergei Astafjev put it, “This is not just another licence. This is a new chapter for Wallester.”

A huge thank you to our UK team, led by Julian Brand and Anna Maxim, and to everyone across Compliance, Risk, Legal, Finance, Operations, Product, and Technology who helped make this happen.

We couldn’t be prouder of what they have achieved. We’re also grateful for the trust placed in us throughout the process.

Now the real work begins.

🇫🇷 Wallester opens new office in Cannes 🇫🇷

Earlier this month, we celebrated the official opening of our new Cannes office – a milestone for our growth in France, and an opportunity to share our vision for the future of payments with partners, clients, and the local business community.

From live saxophone music and a ribbon-cutting ceremony to a guided tour of the new office, the evening was filled with energy and connection.

We were honored to welcome representatives from Visa (@visa), the Sophia Antipolis Foundation, and the Cannes mayoral office.

Our Cannes office will serve as the center of our activities on the Côte d’Azur, helping us support clients more closely and work with local talent.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us to mark this occasion. We’re proud of what we’ve built together, and even more excited about what comes next.

This is only the beginning.

We asked the team where they’d rather be sitting. Almost nobody said their own desk 💚😁

Where’s yours?

Being good at your job and being easy to recommend are two separate skills, and most people only work on the first one.

Your client isn’t going to sit there explaining what you do. They have two seconds and one sentence, and if that sentence is your job title, the conversation moves on.

What’s the sentence going around about you? 😏

Most founders price a purchase by its sticker price. That’s the wrong number. The right one takes three steps and about five minutes to find.

Swipe through for the quick version of ROI math you can run before any big spend: new equipment, a new branch, a new hire.

Save this for the next time a «great deal» lands in your inbox.

Welcome our series Wallester Talks 🎙️💚

We gave our Head of Implementation things that show up in every project and asked him to sort each one in a single word. Which one would you have sorted differently?

Revenue is the number everyone quotes and the one that hides the most 🤫

The three in this video are all about risk rather than size. How much of your income depends on one person’s decision. How long you’d last if that decision went the wrong way. How much of next month is already in motion before it starts.

None of them need accounting software. They need a list of your clients, last year’s numbers and about twenty minutes. The reason most owners haven’t done it isn’t difficulty – it’s that nothing goes wrong until it does, and by then the answer is obvious anyway.

Which of the three do you actually know?

Revenue tells you how big the business is. Unit economics tells you whether it works.

The reason this one matters more than it sounds: a business can grow and get worse at the same time. More sales, more staff to handle them, more discounts to win them – and if each sale leaves less than it used to, growth just moves you backwards faster.

The number also changes what you do next. Whether a discount is survivable. Whether a supplier’s twenty cents is worth arguing about. How many sales a new hire has to bring in before they pay for themselves. All of that is unanswerable until you know what one sale actually leaves you.

In some businesses the unit isn’t a sale, it’s a customer, because they come back. Same maths, longer timeline.

Do you know what one sale leaves you?

Your hourly rate is probably wrong just because you never did the math.

The 2025 research on self-employed professionals in the Netherlands found they bill around 29 hours a week on average.

In creative fields, it’s often lower, closer to 18 to 25 hours.
The rest goes to emails, invoices, proposals, revisions, and the quiet work of finding your next client. It’s real work. It just doesn’t get billed.

Most freelancers price like an employee. One salary, divided by 40 hours, done. But you’re not an employee. You cover your own taxes, your own sick days, your own slow months. If your rate doesn’t account for that, you’re working for less than you think.

Here’s the formula that actually adds it up. Save it before your next quote.

🥲 Real pain... The platform takes its cut before the money reaches you. Then payment processing, currency conversion, income tax, social contributions, the accountant who tracks all of it, and the subscriptions you need to do the work at all.

And that’s before the hours you never billed – pitching, replying, chasing invoices that are two months late.

This is why your rate isn’t your income. If you want €500 in your account, €500 is not the number you put on the invoice.

What’s the one that surprised you most when you started? 👇
