2 Artistic balance of bamboo and birds - definitely wallpaper not artisan

3 Ground floor dressing room. Unusual 4 Being used a service area for bar

5 well protected from sun with automatic blinds to control light

2nd visit to @theickworthhotel to see their paper in the little pantry type room, which is used as a store room for their bar service.

It's incredible to see a paper survive in a situation like this.

The paper is in excellent condition.
And the staff is pretty good too..

Would be a nice place for a stay.

Blickling Hall

Chinese bedroom.
Hung in the 1760s
Auction notes on back from 1758
Bought from The East India Company.
Unusual because the mountains were cut out to fit the size of the room and then repainted in situ.
There's a stamp of the artists name.

Stop the press!
2 panels of original Chinese wallpaper has come up for auction.

They are framed and torn and looks like they might have been like a jigsaw puzzle coming of the wall of an important property.
They are fun and colourful and up for sale in a few weeks at @dreweatts1759
Check their website for viewing dates.
We are going to make sure to be there.

Hopefully we might meet some other Chinese Wallpaper enthusiasts?

This design has many trademarks of original wallpaper, but I am not sure I have ever seen the low growing bamboo shoots before? There is definitely an artist who has observed nature behind these brushstrokes.

Where did they originate?
Why are they framed like this?
Where will they end up?

5 interesting facts:

1 The outside does not match the interior. Outside Neo-Norman. Inside very decorative and Victorian.

2 The wall paper in the Chinese Wallpapr Room is one continuous design.

3 1992 the entire wallpaper was removed for a winter season restoration project.

4 The building and all the enteriors are funded by plantations in Jamaica and Slate mines in Wales.

5 The slate bed is still at the castle and on display, often highlighted as one of the castle’s most eccentric objects.

Creature Corner.
This will be a regular feature for all the venues we go to on our Chinese Wallpaper Caper.

One of the fun things to do when you discover a new design, is looking out for the curious creatures and characters hidden amongst the glorious foliage and flowers.

This is from @hotelendsleigh where it all began. So also before we started looking properly.

Here is @hotelendsleigh
Where it all began
Lovely hotel originally built as a fishing lodge in Cottage Orné style, for the Duke of Bedford.
They loved it and so do we.
Humphry Repton created the romantic fairytale Gardens.
It sits right on the border between Devon and Cornwall.
