We have a habit of doing things backwards at Walrus, bowls of chilli in summer and additional outdoor seating in the dead middle of winter — Heated courtyard now OPEN daily!! Room for another 20ish bums, the sound system is also quite decent xx by @walrusmelbourne

I have been coming here since they opened and I have yet to find a breakfast in Melbourne that comes close.

Triple stacked pancakes with whipped butter and maple syrup.

Texas French toast on extra thick bread.

The bodega breakfast sandwich on a fresh knot roll.

A breakfast burrito that has absolutely no right being this good.

Pecan pie by the slice if you have room.

Filter coffee with a free refill.

Free refills. In Melbourne. I know.

This place is a love letter to the American diner. Wooden booths. Laminex tables. Handwritten specials board. Deceptively plain on the outside. Catastrophically generous on the inside.

Very good. Very nice. Very tasty.

Getting my mud directly from the source this morning. Bought this Coffee Queen for $90 off eBay in early 2023, she was the first piece of equipment we got for Walrus and safe to say the most reliable to this day — it’s only conked out on us once due to a rogue coffee bean getting stuck in the water pipe, live on live long you good thing by @walrusmelbourne

It’s a very proper, piled high, Chicken Caesar Salad with crispy bacon, croutons and the like. We’d dress it up table side for you but we simply don’t have the space. On from tomorrow — perhaps you’d like a fried egg on top too!! by @walrusmelbourne

This week has been our final week graced by the presence that is Sam, our head chef, who’s decided to move to greener pastures, trading Brunswick for Castlemaine.

Describing the impact Sam has had on Walrus would be impossible, but the cafe would be nothing of what it is today without his dedication and determination toward quality and consistency.

With you I’ve shared countless conversations bordering on the insane, made you hundreds of iced oat lattes and been subject to some wild experimentations with the few ingredients we have on hand.
