One year down.

When I pictured our first year of marriage, I don’t think I could have imagined just how much life we would fit into 365 days.

We got married. We welcomed our beautiful son and became Mom and Dad. We moved into our dream home.

We experienced some of the greatest moments of our lives,and some of the hardest.

This year stretched us. It changed us. It asked more of us than I think either of us expected.

But through all of it, I got to do life with you.

And when I look back on our first year of marriage, I don’t see a perfect year. I see something even better.

I see a year where we built a home, created a family, learned how to love each other in new ways, and kept choosing each other through every version of life that came our way.

If this is what we can build in year one, I can’t wait to see what a lifetime with you holds.

I’d choose you in the easy seasons.

I’d choose you in the hard ones.

I’d choose you in every life.

Happy first anniversary.

Our sweet Great Aunt Freda joined the angels on Friday, October 9th. 🤍

Aunt Freda was truly one of the most genuine, down-to-earth people I’ve ever known. She had a way of making everyone feel loved, welcomed, and special. She loved with her whole heart, cherished her family, and lived a beautiful, full life filled with so many memories, stories, and poems.

Last year, she celebrated an incredible 70 years of marriage…a lifetime of love that so many can only dream of. Be sure to watch the video to hear the beautiful poem she wrote. What a gift it is to have those words in her own voice. 🤍

One of the things I will forever be grateful for is that Aunt Freda got to meet our sweet Colter. Just last week, she specifically asked to see him, and we were blessed to spend time with her on Monday. Looking back, I realize just how precious those moments were. What seemed like a simple visit became a memory I will hold close to my heart forever. I’m so thankful she got to love on him one more time.

Aunt Freda, we already miss your beautiful smile, your thoughtful text messages, your poems, and the love you so freely gave to everyone around you.

What a beautiful life you lived, and what a beautiful legacy of love you leave behind.

One year ago today, I received a phone call from my mom that I will never forget. “I have breast cancer.”

Four words that made my entire world stand still. I remember feeling like the room around me suddenly became so small, almost suffocating. My mind was racing, my heart was sinking, and all I could think was, How can this be happening to my mom?

There are moments in life that change you, and hearing those words from someone you love so deeply is one of them. We are incredibly thankful that the type of breast cancer Mom was diagnosed with was rare and slow-growing. In November 2025, she underwent surgery, and we received the news we had been praying for…clear margins. 🤍

But what I really want to share today is just how extraordinary my mom is. My mom is, quite literally, one of the strongest women I have ever known. Not because this past year was easy, or because she never had moments of fear, but because of the way she continued to love, give, and show up for others while navigating something so difficult herself.

While recovering from surgery and learning to navigate a new normal, she was still taking care of me. Loving me through my pregnancy and preparing her heart to welcome her very first grandchild. And now, watching her love Colter as his Oma is one of the greatest gifts I could ever ask for. There is something so humbling about watching the woman who has spent her entire life taking care of you face something you wish you could take away from her.

Mom, I hope you know how proud I am of you. How much I admire your strength, your courage, and the beautiful heart you carry through everything life throws your way. I don’t think I’ll ever have the words to explain how much you mean to me, but I hope you never question how deeply you are loved.

This past year has reminded me that time together is never something we should take for granted. The ordinary days, the phone calls, the hugs, the laughter, and the memories we are still getting to make together…they are everything.

A year ago, I was terrified of what the future might hold. Today, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for all the beautiful moments we still get to share.

Our Sweet Yaya.

Oh, how I wish I could hear your voice just one more time. To see that radiant smile that could light up an entire room, feel your hands gently cup my face as you pulled me close, and hear those familiar words, “Hi, sweetheart.”

And how lucky was I to watch those same hands hold my precious Colter, and that same smile light up for him.

There was something so special about the way you loved. It was gentle, yet fierce. Quiet in some moments, but impossible to miss. You had a way of making the people around you feel like they were the most important person in the world.

When I think of you, I think of music. Of sitting beside you at the piano, learning from your hands. Of singing together, family trips, and a lifetime of memories woven together by your love. I think of the way you welcomed Dan into your heart as though he’d always been your grandson. And I think of the incredible gift of watching you love Colter, another generation getting to experience the magic of being loved by you.

It’s hard to imagine a world without your smile in it. Without your voice, your laughter, or the little things that were so wonderfully, unmistakably you.

I hope Heaven is painted in every beautiful shade of blue. I hope there are birds everywhere, melodies that never end, and a piano waiting just for you. And I hope you know how much of yourself you left behind in all of us.

What I wouldn’t give for one more hug, one more song, one more moment.

And Yaya, I can almost hear you asking me one more time…

“Wanna know something?”

“I love you so much!”

9.27.26 - Our sweet Colter’s baptism. 🤍

Surrounded by our parents and his godparents, we watched our little boy be baptized and welcomed into a life of faith. Having Pastor Tom there to baptize him made an already special day even more meaningful.

There was something so beautiful about standing at the lake, in the same place we were married, holding the little boy we prayed for and love beyond words; promising to raise him knowing just how deeply he is known and loved by God.

And tucked into today was a little piece of someone we love and miss so much. Colter’s vest was made from my dad’s pastoral alb…the one he wore Sunday after Sunday throughout his ministry. Seeing Colter wear it for his baptism felt like such a beautiful connection between generations and a reminder that faith and love continue on. 🤍

More than anything, today was about you, Colter. The beautiful life God created so intentionally, the joy you have brought into ours, and the faith we pray will surround and guide all of your days.

We love you more than you will ever know, sweet boy. 🤍

The lakes I love, the trails that feel like home, the places that hold pieces of my story. The big beautiful things and the tiny ones we might otherwise walk right past.

I want to teach you to love the water, notice the sky, get your feet dirty, stay curious, and never stop being in awe of this world.

This year feels especially tender.

This morning, I sat and watched Dan read Colter a book about his very first Father’s Day. I found myself smiling, almost needing to pinch myself. Is this really my life? How did I get so lucky?

And then, just as quickly, my eyes filled with tears.

I’ve been missing my dad more than ever this year. Becoming a parent has only deepened my understanding of how much love he had to give, and how much he would have adored being a papa. There are so many firsts I wish he could be here for.

But even in his absence, I feel him with us. I know he’s been keeping a close watch from above.

This photo was taken on a family trip to Colter Bay in Grand Teton National Park, the very place our sweet Colter is named after. Someday, we’ll take him there and share the stories and memories that made it so special to me growing up.

I love you always, Dad.
