Beautiful Postcards from Kyoto 🇯🇵 — Kiyomizu-dera, Shirakawa, Kamo River, Mishima-tei sukiyaki

Kyoto, slowly — eight single-shot video postcards from December: the pagoda at Kiyomizu, the willows on the Shirakawa, a picnic on the Kamo, tea in the room, sukiyaki at Mishima-tei, teppanyaki, sweets, and lights out.

Catching the sunset at Montjuïc was one of the little joys of this Barcelona trip. Unlike the busy city center, this hill offers wide open green spaces, museums, a castle, and a panoramic view of the port and skyline.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, the city slowly lit up, leaving the noise behind while everything up here stayed quiet and golden.
It felt like a stolen moment of calm — and made it just a little harder to leave.

Andorra—a tiny country nestled between France and Spain, so small you might accidentally drive past it. The first impression? A high-value version of Switzerland, but with much better food (asian benchmark HAHA)

Winter here is all about snow-capped mountains, ski resorts, and duty-free shopping. Unfortunately, skiing isn’t my thing, so I took the “day-tripper” route instead—wandering through town, hiking for two hours, sipping hot chocolate, and simply spacing out in front of the breathtaking mountain views.

In less than 24 hours, I entered from the Spanish border and left through the French border—a fleeting dream of the Alps.

🥐 STOP 01｜OUI. Bakery & Cafe

☕ STOP 02｜WEEKENDERS COFFEE TOMINOKOJI

🍜 STOP 03｜MENYA KIYO (麺屋聖)

Only 4 hours in Kyoto? We’d probably spend most of it eating and drinking coffee.

🥐 01 | OUI. Bakery & Cafe
A bakery in a renovated Kyoto townhouse, with plenty of sweet and savoury options. Loved the salt bread and savoury pastries.

☕ 02 | WEEKENDERS COFFEE
A little coffee spot tucked away in a leafy courtyard. Limited seating, but a lovely place for a quick coffee stop.

🍜 03 | MENYA KIYO
Shellfish-based shoyu ramen near Kyoto Station. Light yet flavourful broth, thin noodles and generous slices of chashu.

Three stops, four hours, and a very well-fed morning before heading back to Osaka.

Weekenders Coffee ☕️

Weekenders Coffee, tucked away in a quiet alley in Kyoto. Set in a traditional Japanese house surrounded by greenery. With only two seats, most people enjoy their coffee standing or take it to go. Good coffee, and one of our favourite spots in Kyoto.

🍽️ What we ate in Kyoto, Japan.

Three restaurants, three very different meals — from traditional sukiyaki and wagyu teppanyaki to a late-night gyoza feast.

Mishima-tei
Traditional Kyoto sukiyaki with beautifully marbled wagyu, prepared right at our table.

📍 Teppan Steak House 青山
An intimate teppanyaki dinner, watching the chef prepare each course right in front of us.

📍 Chao Chao Gyoza
Crispy pan-fried gyoza in four different flavours — perfect for a casual evening.

Which one would you try first? 👀

A little Kyoto dessert diary -
From kinako parfaits in Gion and fruit tarts in Higashiyama to a riverside coffee picnic by the Kamo River.

Four different spots, each with its own charm. Some we loved for the desserts, others simply for the experience.

Our favourite moment? An unhurried afternoon by the river, with coffee, little treats and nowhere else to be.

Late autumn at Yasaka Shrine, Kyoto.

Most of the autumn leaves were already gone, but between the vermilion torii, lanterns and the last patches of red, Kyoto still had a little bit of fall left.

A winter walk through Gion and Higashiyama, Kyoto — from the willow-lined Shirakawa canal to the old streets around Ishibe-koji.

No real plan for the afternoon. Just walking, stopping whenever something caught our eye, and taking photos along the way.
