I took such a big personal pause these past 5 months and I genuinely feel like a new person. I own an aquarium now! My parents got a new dog, George, and he's such a friendly little dude. I turned 29, went to the CNE for the first time in years, had some great birthday get togethers, quit some bad habits, and got to go to Mexico for 3 days. I still miss my old pup like hell, but I love my job and I have supportive, long term friendships and I still get to travel. Overall, I couldn't be more grateful.

Now that I'm intentionally doing less, I'm doing more naturally. I haven't taken such a big step back like this and for such a long time in probably like 5 or 6 years. These perspective shifts and growing pains are really putting lots of things in a new light for me.

I didn't even know if I wanted to come back and keep sharing my travels here. But it was my dream to do this, for my younger self, and after taking all this time away, it still is my dream. I'm letting all the things I wanted to do when I was 12 consume me and I really love that for myself. I love connecting with everyone here and seeing where our journeys take us. I'll probably be shadowbanned after being gone for months on end, but that feels so good and freeing. All this isn't for the whole internet; it's for me and anyone else who wants to take a step into my world. So, welcome, or welcome back. Let's see where this new chapter leads (and let's be real, it'll probably lead me somewhere chaotic and amazing) ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐ŸŒŽ. by @wandering.at.willl

Two weeks ago, we had to put down our sweet Layla after 14 wonderful years. It was a hard goodbye, but it was her time after such a long and wonderful life. I'm so grateful to have gotten to love and spoil her all these years, see her grow, and get to know her personality (which she had so much of). Everyone who knew Layla fell in love with her. I'll never forget how scared my home care nurse was of her the first time she visited. By 6 months in, the two were pretty much inseparable. From high school through college, my awful injury, the pandemic, and years of jobs, layoffs, and struggles, Layla was here for all of it. I'll miss her to the moon and back. taken in Toronto, Canada by @wandering.at.willl

A few last Cambodia snapshots. Dinner on Tonle Sap lake (1-2), some good food (3-4), and a couple more from Angkor Wat (5-6). Although I only spent 4 days here, I felt like I did a good anount! The multi temple experience of Angkor Wat, the markets of Pub Street, and the floating village tour were all worth it! Although I just got back from my second asia trip last week, I'm already excited for the next one ๐Ÿ˜Ž. taken in Siem Reap, Cambodia by @wandering.at.willl

Cambodia really said "I bet you never seen anything like this before." ๐Ÿ˜…

When you DO go to Angkor Wat (not if, WHEN), you need to be bringing a couple of things!

Bring:

1) water. It is a long and hot day no matter what time of year! Bring. Enough. Water.

2) cash. The restaurants and vendors in the area often only accept cash. You'll want a cold drink or some food (get the beef lok lak!). Bring hard currency to avoid going hungry.

3) sunscreen. Again, Cambodia. You don't want to burn, so just bring it and put enough on your face and neck and arms when the sun comes out.

4) umbrella. Moreso for the wet season but come on, we all know when it rains it pours in southeast asia! It sucks having to find a place to ride out the storm or walk around soaked all day. I went in dry season which I would recommend! And yet another use for the umbrella: shade ๐Ÿ˜Ž.

5) good shoes. Does it need to be said? You don't wanna be showing up to walk around 800 year old ruins and temples in your flip flops, heels, crocs or sandals. Bring good walking, running or tennis shoes so you don't trip and fall!

Who else has been to Angkor Wat? Any suggestions for a first time visitor? taken in Siem Reap, Cambodia by @wandering.at.willl

Watching the sun rise over Angkor Wat in Cambodia was one of the greatest experiences I've ever had! Truly one of those things everyone should have on their bucket list. I'm in asia for the second time right now and can't stop thinking about what this was like. Make time for this on your trip if you can!

Quick tips:

๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ญ You'll have to wake up at 3am to get there early and get a good spot (its worth it!)

๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ญ Entrance fees aren't always included in the tour price! It was $35 USD I believe for a day.

๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ญ The tour included transport, a guide, lunch, and access to all the major temples including Ta Prohm, Ta Keo, Bayon, and of course Anglor Wat.

๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ญ It's a LOT of walking and there is a ton of uneven ground. Wear close toes shoes and bring sunscreen! Yes the sun will come out by 9am and burn you.

๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ญ Don't vandalize the temples or grounds for God's sake, or try to break off a piece to go home. You'll get a stiff fine and probably worse (and frankly you'd deserve it). If you see something, say something.

๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ญ These are UNESCO heritage areas so treat them with respect, stay with your guide, and be safe IE watch your footing and climb temple stairs slowly. A bad step has sent people flying to the emergency room.

That's all for now! Happy travels, friends! taken in Angkor Wat by @wandering.at.willl

A few last snapshots from Chiang Mai ๐Ÿ“ธ๐Ÿ˜Ž

As I've said so many times, one of my favorite cities in the world, hands down. There's nothing better than feeling like every part of you clicks with some far off corner of the world. I hope everyone gets to find that place someday. I'm grateful I've found 2 or 3 of those places already.

I'm still tentatively taking recommendations for one last destination this year, so comment or send any cool or unusual bucket list destinations my way! Nicaragua, I'm looking at you...

In the meantime, the countdown is on until I'm back in Asia again ๐ŸŒ taken in Chiang Mai, Thailand by @wandering.at.willl

Here are 5 things you MUST do in Chiang Mai, Thailand ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ!

๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ Go temple hopping! There are near a dozen temples in the old town, all within walking distance of each other. Many are hundreds of years old. The old city gates are worth a look as well! Best respectful and courteous at the temples, and most are completely free to enter.

๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ Eat street food! There are so many little restaurants, food stalls, markets, and interesting places to grab food all over the city. From western fast food to Thai specialties, burgers, tacos and more, you can find everything here fresh and at a great price!

๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ Take a drive through the mountains and rice paddies. My Doi Inthanon excursion (see below) included a stop in a local village in a valley. Seeing a glimpse of local life and in such amazing scenery is such a treat.

๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ Doi Inthanon National Park. We got to see multiple waterfalls, the twin pagodas, the highest point in Thailand, and had Khao Soi for lunch. Definitely book this as a day trip!

๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ Elephant sanctuary. I cannot recommend this enough! Please choose an ethical tour provider and do your research. Seeing elephants up close in their natural habitat is something everyone should experience if possible.

Doi Inthanon National Park has everything you need for a great day trip from Chiang Mai! You'll drive through villages, see waterfalls, eat delicious food, and appreciate some seriously beautiful mountain views! I also got to pair this with the king snd queen Pagodas. It cost $30 CAD and I booked it through @getyourguide !

The King and Queens Pagodas at Doi Inthanon National Park Chiang Mai. The architecture here is astounding, and surrounded by a series of botanical gardens right in the mountains! Thailand truly never disappoints. It's a one stop shop for a country that has everything: food, culture, nature, great vibes, and friendly people. When you're in Chiang Mai, make this one of your excursions! taken in Chiang Mai, Thailand by @wandering.at.willl

The ONE thing you must do in Chiang Mai is to visit an elephant sanctuary! Having the chance to get up close with rescued Asian elephants in an ethical setting is one of the most rewarding and eye opening experiences I could have ever imagined. You absolutely need to do this! But please, please, do your research before booking this! You need to know you're at an ethical sancuatuary.

๐Ÿ˜. These creatures should NEVER be doing tricks, painting, playing soccer, or doing circus acts. These are supposed to be facilities that rescue elephants from abuse like this.

๐Ÿ˜. Any organization that is physically shackling or restraining their elephants is not ethical, full stop. They should have pens, fences, or natural obstacles to keep them safe.

๐Ÿ˜. Riding elephants is the biggest red flag. Their backs do not bear weight well, its is their legs that do the lifting. Humans should not be riding on the backs of these animals; it puts so much stress on them physically and mentally.

Elephant sanctuaries should be rehabilitating their animals, taking care of them, and allowing them to live comfortably with no forced contact with humans, riding, performing, or physical restraint. Please choose an ethical sanctuary if you plan on visiting with these gentle giants! taken in Chiang Mai, Thailand by @wandering.at.willl

Chiang Mai. Thailand. My favorite city in the world.

There was nothing about this place I didn't love (thought it could be closer to the ocean ๐Ÿคฃ). The beautiful mountains, temples, canals, night markets, amazing food, and rich history made this one a slam dunk for me! The islands are spectacular, and Bangkok is such a lively and vibrant city, but Chiang Mai has the perfect mix of busy city life with a laid back vibe to it. Did I mention it's one of the most budget friendly places I've ever been as well?

I guess what I'm saying is, if you haven't been, go NOW! taken in Chiang Mai, Thailand by @wandering.at.willl
