Trying to make art without thinking about the algorithm. Sounds simple, right? Except I somehow started thinking about everything, the color palette, the theme, the grid, what people would think, what fonts I should use on my reels… and somewhere in all of that, I forgot to just create. So today, I decided to ignore all of it. I found this illustration tutorial by @floortjesart on YouTube and just followed along. I am happy that I made something completely outside my comfort zone. Whether it’s calligraphy, illustration, or anything else, that feeling of creating something from scratch still feels the same. So I think I’m going to give myself permission to make the random artwork I feel like making without worrying about whether they’re going to mess up my feed or my grid. Maybe art doesn’t always need to fit somewhere. Sometimes you just have to follow the idea and see where it takes you. Calligraphy is not handwriting. I found these old practice sheets from 2020-2021, when I first started my calligraphy journey. And looking at them reminded me just how much practice goes into something that can look so effortless. What you’re seeing here is just a small fraction of the hours that actually went in. During lockdown, I would sit for hours and hours, practicing and repeating the same movements until my hand started to understand what my eyes were seeing. It became my therapy without me even realising it. And then life happened. A 9-to-5 and everyday responsibilities meant I couldn’t dedicate the same time or give this the 100% I once did. But somehow, I never really stopped loving it. Over the years, I’ve made name cards and created personalised pieces. And the thing that keeps bringing me back is their reaction, the beautiful messages, the little “wow, this is so pretty”, and just seeing their face light up when they see their name written out for them. That’s the part I love the most. Somewhere along the way, calligraphy stopped being about perfection. It became about creating something that makes another person feel special and seen. And maybe that’s why I’m still here and trying to share my passion🤍🧿 taken in Mumbai, Maharashtra by @wandering.script

Found this little piece made by me from 2022, and looking at it now, I still think it’s pretty good. ✨ This was back when Reels were still new and my editing skills were very much a work in progress (still are, honestly).🫠 I edited this using Instagram’s Reel editor, figuring out the flow of shots, transitions and all the little details.📹 Looking at it now, I can definitely see things I would change… the text placement, definitely. But the shots, the focus, the little moments… yeah, 2022 me had something going on. ✨ And then there’s traditional calligraphy…ink, nib, paper and an oblique holder. There’s something about writing this way that takes you back to a completely different era, when letters were written slowly, by hand, and meant to be kept.✒️📝 Somehow, four years later, I am still here…still picking up the pen, still making things with my hands, still coming back to calligraphy.✍️ I am really happy this is still a part of me 💜⭐️ [traditional calligraphy, modern calligraphy, copperplate calligraphy, pointed pen calligraphy, hand lettering, calligraphy practice, calligraphy artist, calligraphy process, handwritten letters, creative journey] taken in Mumbai, Maharashtra by @wandering.script
