![I picked "Hindu Meal" thinking it meant vegetarianโฆ and almost ended up with chicken on my plate ๐ณโ๏ธ
Here's what nobody tells you ๐
๐ HNML (Hindu Meal): no beef or pork, but it CAN have chicken, lamb or fish. It is NOT vegetarian.
โ
What to pick instead:
๐ฅ AVML (Asian Vegetarian): Indian-style veg with dal, sabzi and paneer. Dairy is included. This is the one most of us actually want.
๐ฑ VGML (Vegan): no meat, eggs or dairy.
๐ง VLML (Lacto-Ovo Vegetarian): Western-style veg that can include eggs and dairy.
๐ JNML (Jain Meal): no onion, garlic or root vegetables.
๐ก Pro tips:
โข Book your meal at least 24โ48 hrs before the flight
โข Re-confirm it at check-in, because meal requests do get missed
โข Tell the crew when you board so they don't hand you the default tray
Comment "VEG" and I'll DM you my veg flyer's cheat sheet ๐ซ

![Europe is hard for pure vegetarians ๐ฅฒ Bread, fries, repeatโฆ until you know these hacks ๐
๐ฅ "Vegetarian" in Europe often includes egg. Always say "no egg."
๐ง Many cheeses use animal rennet. Check labels.
๐ฒ "Veg" soups are often made with chicken stock. Ask first.
๐ฑ Use HappyCow to find veg spots fast.
๐งณ Pack masalas, Maggi and achaar. Thank me later ๐

![Pure vegetarian NRI in Spain or Europe? You've probably eaten meat without knowing it ๐ง๐ณ
Every vegetarian NRI has had this moment. You order the "veg" option in Spain, Italy or Switzerland, enjoy it, then find out about the stock, the gelatin or the animal rennet in the cheese. Suddenly you miss India, where "pure veg" actually means pure veg ๐ฎ๐ณ
What hides behind a "veg" label in Europe:
๐ง Cheese made with animal rennet
๐ฒ Soups and beans cooked in meat or chicken stock
๐ฐ Desserts and gummies with gelatin
๐ฅ Sauces with anchovy or fish sauce
Ask before you order: "Is this made with meat, stock, gelatin or animal rennet?" It feels awkward for ten seconds, but it saves you a lot of guilt later.
