Woke up at midnight and headed out to Presque isle in hopes lady aurora would show herself and boy did she put on one hell of a show.

Seeing the Aurora has been on my bucket list for many years now living in an area where they are far and few between. Our trip to the U.P. Gave us the opportunity to check a few things off that list.

It was a particularly dew filled, wet morning as I watched this #sandhillcrane shaking off all the water and begin to dry off. The way the light glimmers off her eye and the sparkle of the dew in the grass surrounding her is what makes the picture for me.

Amazing little spot up near Buchanan Michigan. This was taken moments before a huge storm came through just as the last rays of light broke through the canopy . The area around us grew silent as the sound of wind began tearing through the forest. Ended up having to sprint to the cars it came so quick.

The perks of photographing wildlife from the kayak is the stealth and ability to lay low. I spotted this #greatblueheron about 50 yards downstream. I Got as low as I could and was able to get some of the best images I’ve ever gotten of these birds.

The most rewarding part was the fact that he never paused what he was doing even as I floated right by .

My first ever American Redstart! I am just blown away with the small amount of time I was able to spend with this little one. Such a gorgeous bird and such bright vibrant pop of color.

Lifer bird for me. Hope to see one again sometime soon.

The sound of falling water brought me here. 💦

Deep in the Mountains of #tennessee this gorgeous waterfall drops 40’ into the basin below before disappearing into the ground again. This is the only waterfall I’ve visited in the entire state where I actually felt alone and at peace. Hidden gems are becoming far and few between , so any chance to enjoy a place like this in total silence is just a magical experience.

It was just before the sun was about to dip below the horizon for the day when I was heading back to my car after a few hours of shooting. As I approached the trail head I heard a loud commotion in the creek just a few yards away. I peaked around the culvert to see this #greenheron getting dive bombed by a Belted Kingfisher.
