🌻🌼 The Superbloom in California is a breathtaking natural phenomenon that occurs when a rare combination of factors creates an explosion of wildflowers across the state. 🌼🌻

🌞🌧️ This spectacular event typically occurs every few years, and it requires just the right mix of sunshine, rain, and warm temperatures to trigger the growth of millions of wildflowers. The result is a dazzling display of vibrant colors that stretch as far as the eye can see.

🌸🌼 The most famous location for the Superbloom is Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, where vast fields of bright orange poppies, delicate lupines, and other wildflowers carpet the desert floor. However, the Superbloom can occur in other locations across the state, such as Joshua Tree National Park, Carrizo Plain National Monument, and the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve.

🌿🌸 Visitors are encouraged to enjoy the Superbloom responsibly by staying on designated trails and avoiding trampling on the delicate flowers. Additionally, it’s important to remember that the Superbloom is a natural phenomenon and cannot be guaranteed to occur every year.. 🌻🌼

It’s not just any old road… It’s Movie Road! 🎥

This widely recognized shooting location was used in many Western films during the 1930s-50s, and is still featured in movies to this day.

Movie Road is located in the Alabama Hills, just over three hours from Los Angeles. 🚨PROTIP: We recommend printing out directions beforehand due to the spotty cell service around the area.

Big Sur, California is waiting for you and your family with breathtaking viewpoints, scenic hikes, and stunning beaches!

Here are a few different focal points that should be considered when planning your visit!
- Bixby Bridge: Its aesthetic architecture has made it one of the most photographed bridges in California, right on the beachside!
- McWay Falls: an 80ft cascading waterfall with areas open for safe swimming
- Pfeiffer State Park: Nicknamed “Baby Yosemite” this park offers stunning views above the river gorge, and even stay in one of 62 rustic cottages!
- Point Sur Lighthouse: Surrounded by sharp cliffs and sea stacks, this peninsula is known for its whale watching!
Big Sur will leave you awe inspired, even for a short visit, so be sure and plan a road trip accordingly so that you can take in all its wonders!

Time for another #photodump! This one’s from our friend @gmessin77 and her sweet black lab, Diggs, as they explored winter in Big Sur.

Surprisingly mild, Big Sur has beauty year-round. From redwood trees to mountainous terrain to rocky beaches, it truly has a little of everything.

Gabrielle and Diggs camped in the redwoods just shy of Pfeiffer Beach. There are few things better than waking up in the quiet redwoods, and the smell of fresh pine needles in the morning is unforgettable.

There are stunning views in all directions, but one of the best has got to be Pfeiffer Beach just before sunrise. Be sure to get here early; the parking lot is small and park staff will turn you away if it’s full.

As always, be respectful of the park. Pack out what you pack in.

Family Traditions are so important to us, one of our absolute must-do traditions involves a beach day at our favorite coastal town, Santa Cruz, Ca. It’s where I went to College and where my husband and I went on our first date! We hopped into the Ford Explorer® SUV and headed to our first stop, Aldos Restaurant at the Yacht Harbor. A local gem Aldos has been there for over 50 years. It not only boasts the best food in town but talk about the views. Our favorite dishes are Calamari, Mussels in White Wine, and Cioppino! Yum! With full tummies, we take a short five-minute walk to the beach. Here we relax and take in the sights and sounds while the boys play. After they are all done playing we then head to the tide pools and a nice stroll next to the cliffs. On this trip, we even saw a whale, less than 100 yards offshore!!!! It was MAGICAL!!!!! In my 23 years visiting Santa Cruz, I have never seen a whale that close to shore! Everyone stopped and looked in awe! Knowing that nothing can top that we called it a night. The next day before leaving we headed out to Capitola, to do some trash pickup on the beach. Just doing our little part to keep our oceans clean and teaching our boys the importance of doing good when no one is looking! Nature-loving kids and coffee-loving parents can get a little of both when taking a mid-morning stroll through Santa Monica’s La Mesa Drive!

Some fun facts to impress your kiddos with:
1. 🌳Moreton Bay Fig trees are famous for their aerial roots that can dig into the ground and provide an anchor for its branches, which can stretch up to 200ft horizontally!
2. The fig that is produced by these trees is not an actual fruit, but rather an inverted flower bunch that’s pollinated by wasps that crawl inside!
3. These trees were ACCIDENTALLY planted here almost 100 years ago when they were thought to be Magnolias 🙈
4. These trees are protected under the Heritage Tree Program and have made many famous movie appearances over the years as the quintessential Californian tree!
