It dawned on me that my favourite authors are not really specific but more random. Take, for example, Haruki Murakami. I consider him as a favourite author but have only read one [Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage] of his works. Add to that, I have only given it 3 out of 5 🌟. There is Michele Amitrani whom I have only read his short stories [12X20 Challenge] which he shared on his website. It provided me snippets on how he writes. And considering these books are technically raw...he writes really good. That rounds him out as a favourite. If we are to talk about an author that I love. An all rounder, should I say. I would hands-down tell you it's Victoria Schwab. I love her works. The world, characters, and magic she creates/d. And I love her personality as well. She's that one author that I like in that simple, straight-forward answer to who is your favourite author. Of course I have plenty more under the table but this would become a feature post than a discussion if I write them all down. But I guess we can safely assume that our favourites are quite subjective with the context of how we like them, no ? Perhaps it can be solely gut instinct as well. β–Ίβ—„β–Ίβ—„β–Ίβ—„β–Ίβ—„β–Ίβ—„β–Ίβ—„β€’πŸ’€β€’β–Ίβ—„β–Ίβ—„β–Ίβ—„β–Ίβ—„β–Ίβ—„β–Ίβ—„ #bookstagramΒ #bookreviewΒ #bookwormΒ #guyswhoread #selfportrait #photomanipulation #adobephotoshop β–Ίβ—„β–Ίβ—„β–Ίβ—„β–Ίβ—„β–Ίβ—„β–Ίβ—„β€’πŸ’€β€’β–Ίβ—„β–Ίβ—„β–Ίβ—„β–Ίβ—„β–Ίβ—„β–Ίβ—„ E'to na @ceruleanthoughts_ ! "The heart is an arrow. It demands aim to land true." --- Leigh Bardugo, Six of Crows 🌹 What do you love most about reading? 🌹 Reading is an incomparable form of distraction. A way to travel to places, an escape to another shell of a person, or it can always be both. 🌹 Have a wonderful day! Death is at your doorstep. They're sad to take your life away, but it's their job to do so. In their act of kindness, they let you have one wish, but you cannot wish for more days in your life. What would your wish be? Death has always been the antagonist of life. The question is, why? Although it may be true that death is an end of someone's life. It may also be true that it is a beginning of another story. Who knows, maybe reincarnation is real. Or maybe the afterlife is. In our desperation to live a long life, we forget to see the importance of everything around us. We forget to appreciate the joy and wonder of today, seeing only the possibilities and longevity of the future. So, is it really death that is our villain? Or is it us who thinks death is? #bookreadhappyhour | I know that guy! "That" is a bad guy! #bookishcoven | There's no motivation like desperation. #whatanovelread | Character addictions. by @wanderwithjon
It definitely took me the entire month of October to finally create my September Wrap-up but, oh well! If you haven’t noticed, I’ve also created a font of my penmanship. So this is more personal than the previous wrap-ups. Anyway, I’ve only read 4 books last month. It was definitely a slow month. If I’m being honest, however, I thought I read more. Remembering You was definitely the highlight. I loved the concept of the book. It was such an unexpectedly amazing read. Films also slowed down. I guess it was a busy month? I din’t even remember anymore. Resident Evil really made my month amazing! I’m a big fan of the franchise despite not having really played any of the games. So seeing the new film with my partner in big screen was amazing! I forgot just how fantastic it is to watch in the cinema. Oh. I also just remembered, I didn’t even read from my September Hopefuls. PokΓ©mon was my childhood. I don’t remember it to be this brutal. Title: PokΓ©mon Adventures: Red and Blue, Vol.04 Author: Hidenori Kusaka Illustrator: Mato Length: 216 pages Every volume of PokΓ©mon Adventures seems determined to surprise me with just how dark this world can get. I’m genuinely enjoying how different this manga feels from the PokΓ©mon I grew up with. I can’t wait to see what happens next! Full review on my blog! Link in bio. Have you read the PokΓ©mon manga? Were you also surprised by how dark it got? by @wanderwithjon
« You fight like a royal. Like the weapons are made of wood. Like no one means to hurt you. But this is not London, Your Highness. Β» Title: Shades of Magic, Vol.01: The Steel Prince Author: V. E. Schwab Illustrator: Enrica Erin Angiolini & Andrea Olimpieri Length: 112 pages It’s been literal years since I last picked up a work by Schwab, who used to be one of my all-time favorite writers. Returning to the world of Shades of Magic through this graphic novel was exciting. Prince Maxim’s journey to the Blood Coast offered a glimpse into a much harsher world, although I find myself wanting more from the characters, world-building, and ending. Still, I’m elated to be back in the universe, and I’m curious to see where the story goes next. Full review on my blog! Link in bio. In a world filled with folklore creatures, sometimes the real monsters are the people in power. Title: Strange Cases: A Graphic Novel Author: Riotbones Length: 290 pages Set in the 1860s, Strange Cases follows Jude Aguilar as he becomes entangled in a justice system where wealth, influence, and connections can determine someone’s fate. I love how naturally the story incorporated folklore creatures into everyday life, but what impressed me most was the artwork. The saturated colours, flat illustration, and grunge textures created such a distinctive, grim atmosphere. The pacing felt a little rushed, but the story remained thrilling, enjoyable, and surprisingly relevant. Thank you @andrewsmcmeel for the review copy! Full review in my blog! Link in bio. « Things don’t have to stay as what they started out as.Β Β» Title: Legends & Lattes: The Graphic Novel Author: Travis Baldree Adapted by: Samuel Sattin Illustrated by: Shanti Rittgers & Sarah Web Length: 210 pages An orc quits adventuring and opens a coffee shop. What could possibly go wrong? Apparently, starting a new business also means making new friends, discovering new pastries, and dealing with the local mafia asking for « protectionΒ Β» money. Thank you @prhinternational for the for the free book! Full review on my blog! Link in bio. What’s your fave cosy fantasy? #PRHInternationalPartner #LegendsAndLattes #Sponsored #Ad by @wanderwithjon
Our library situation has been pushed to completely unrealistic geographic extremes. Bought this for the cover, but stayed for Rizal and Dracula. Title: The Indio and the Impaler Author: Wincy Aquino Ong Length: 348 pages As someone who rarely picks up historical fiction, I didn’t expect this book to leave me wanting to read JosΓ© Rizal, give Dracula another chance, and explore even more Filipino literature. Still, this reminded me just how wildly creative Filipino literature can be. Full review on my blog! Link in bio. Sometimes, returning to an old story reminds you why you loved its characters in the first place. Title: Winnie-the-Pooh: The Graphic Novel Author: A.A. Milne Adapted by: Kevan Chandler & Joe Sutphin Illustrator: Joe Sutphin Length: 176 pages It has been ages since I last visited the Hundred Acre Wood and I’d forgotten how charming everyone is. They’re incredibly innocent, incredibly dumb, or somehow both and I loved meeting them all over again. Especially Eeyore. This was such a fun and beautifully illustrated return to a childhood classic. Thank you @tenspeedyoungreaders for the review copy. Full review on my blog! Link in bio. Who’s your fave Winnie-the-Pooh character? #WinnieThePooh #GraphicNovel #AAMilne #TenSpeedYoungReaders by @wanderwithjon
« No one has life figured out! The whole point of it is to go along and make the best choices you can for yourself.Β Β» Title: Remembering You Author: Nick Williams Length: 312 pages I started this book with hesitation and ended it incredibly glad that I’ve given it a chance. Remembering You is a beautifully sad story about toxic love, fear, self-worth, and finding the courage to believe that you deserve something better. Full review on my blog! Link in bio. Have you ever hesitated to read a book only for it to completely surprise you? by @wanderwithjon
