The Stone Chariot of Hampi was built as a shrine dedicated to Garuda, the sacred vehicle of Lord Vishnu. It is located inside the Vijaya Vittala Temple complex and dates to the Vijayanagara Empire, generally associated with the 16th century.

Carved from granite, the monument is admired for its intricate craftsmanship, sculpted stone wheels and remarkable architectural detail. Although it appears to be a chariot carved entirely from stone, its structure is composed of carefully assembled stone elements. The wheels were designed to resemble those of a real chariot, though they are no longer intended to rotate.

More than a landmark, the Stone Chariot reflects the artistic brilliance, devotion and engineering skills of the Vijayanagara Empire. Today, it stands as a powerful reminder of Hampi's historic grandeur and its recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Chintamani Cave Complex, Anegundi

Tucked among the dramatic boulders beside the Tungabhadra River, the Chintamani Cave Complex is one of the most fascinating sites associated with the Ramayana in the Anegundi region, Hampi.

According to local tradition, this is where Rama met Hanuman for the first time, when Hanuman approached Rama on behalf of Sugriva. The site is also traditionally identified as the place from where Rama shot Vali during his duel with Sugriva.

The complex is home to Rama Padha, the sacred footprints traditionally believed to be those of Lord Rama. Surrounded by massive boulders, the cave, river and ancient landscape create an atmosphere where mythology and nature seem to merge.
