Still can’t believe these are in California 😳

Did you know that Elephant Seals are the largest seals in the world and can grow up to 8,000 pounds and 15 feet long?! Imagine a mini-van-sized sea creature just chilling on the beach. (Yeah, I was not prepared either.)

And you can see them FOR FREE in California.

📍 Where to Find Them:
🐾 Año Nuevo State Park – Best for guided hikes
🐘 Piedras Blancas Elephant Seal Rookery – Easiest drive-up access

⏳ Best Time to Visit:
❄️ December – March: Breeding season (watch them battle for dominance!)
🌥️ April – August: Molting season (they shed their old skin… wild to see!)
🍂 September – November: Juveniles and sub-adults hanging out

🔍 Wild Elephant Seal Facts You Won’t Believe:
✔️ They can hold their breath for over an hour while diving deep 🌊
✔️ Males grow giant trunk-like noses (hence the name!)
✔️ Their fights for dominance look like something out of Jurassic Park 😳
