Ten years ago, in the quiet hours of the morning of 5th January, I received a message that changed everything. I was told to open the gate. Opening the gate meant they were leaving the hospital. And leaving the hospital meant my elder brother, Fred, was gone.
That day rewrote my understanding of pain. Losing my brother while my mother lay in a coma was a kind of strength I never knew I would need. We could not even cry freely because crying felt like risking another loss. So we learned how to be still. How to carry grief silently. How to survive.

It has been ten years since Fred went to heaven. Ten years without his presence on earth. But not a single year without his place in my heart.

I don’t remember him out of sorrow. I remember him out of love. Out of honour. Out of deep respect for who he was and who he was becoming. I know, without doubt, that if he were still here, he would have been an incredible man; impactful, kind, and purposeful.

Death did not erase him. Time did not reduce him. Love preserved him.
I look forward, not backward, because I believe he is not just in my past; he is in my future. Until that day, I carry his name, his memory, and his legacy with gratitude.
I love you deeply, my brother.
