You can’t beat a classic red ❤️

Ruby is a crystallised aluminium oxide, and has exactly the same chemical composition as a sapphire.

Only small amounts of colouring trace elements separate them. From dark red to a light pink, the ruby has proved its popularity in jewellery for hundreds of years.

Lapis Lazuli is a stone with a rich history. Scholars have long argued that references in the Bible to sapphires were actually references to Lapis Lazuli.

As well as its use in jewellery as a beautiful and rich blue stone, ground to a fine powder, the stone becomes the basis for the artists colour Ultramarine.

The gold flecks associated with the stone are in fact pyrite (fools gold) and there is some controversy as to whether or not these flecks are desirable. Fashion plays its part in dictating this.

A little Labradorite magic!

Labradorite is part of the feldspar family,one of the most abundant mineral groups in the Earth’s crust.

YETthis seemingly ordinary mineral can hide something extraordinary……tilt it in the light and its colours can suddenly come alive, with flashes of blue, green, gold and sometimes violet appearing to move across the stone like liquid light.

It’s this ever changing labradorescence that makes every piece so unique!

A stone that can look quietly grey one moment, then reveal an unexpected burst of colour the next.

2/ was very popular during the Art Nouveau movement.

4/ Moonstone rate 6/6.5 on the MOHs scale so it is moderately soft so can scratch easily.
5/ Although people automatically think of moonstone being transparent with blue 0r rainbow sheen . They are also available in peach, grey, green yellow and brown.
