Chronicling a small town’s journey of hope, the film follows a group of young teenagers as they pour their hearts and imaginations into building cars from scrap metal, preparing to compete in the only race of its kind in the world - The Philipstown WireCar Grand Prix.

Few people have as much cultural cachet as @wardgeous; he has, after all, seen it all – well, more than most, and always from somewhere near the centre of things. ⁠

At 22, he started Diary of Ward, a nightlife blog that captured the particular energy of the early 2010s, when everything felt possible and everything was shiny and new. From social media emerging as a nexus for community to street style and the rise of the creative polymath, the blog became an art form in itself: documenting a generation as it invented itself.⁠
⁠
Paul needs little introduction, and his work defies easy summary. He is a celebrated filmmaker and instinctive chronicler of people and place. Now, he is celebrating the success of his first feature-length film, The Philipstown Wire Car Grand Prix, which received eight shortlists across multiple categories at Cannes Lions.⁠

We chat to Paul about his early days, his preference for collaboration over singular expression, the story behind the film, his pride in South African stories, and more.⁠
