here is another gift i picked out for the mother of one of my clients to give to her daughter as a birthday present and i wanted to jot down examples of questions i ask myself when looking for a gift for someone as a peek into the process:

•does this item fit into the budget?
•does the client have something like this item already?
•does this item fit a need? or a want?
•will this item fit seamlessly into the clients’ wardrobe? ie color-wise, practicality etc
•is the color of this item flattering for my client?
•how often will this item get used?
•is the item trendy?
•what is the timeline?
•will i need to gift wrap the item myself? if so, what type of gift wrap should be used?
•am i 100% sure this item will be the perfect gift or do i need to keep looking?
SPECIFICS
•how big is this bag? and how will that sizing work for my client?
•will it fit the “essentials” (which vary by client)?
•are the straps adjustable or are there multiple straps and ways to wear?
•will it be comfortable to wear considering its frequency of use/just in general?
•will it be easy to upkeep? ex: is the color of the leather/suede/raffia easy to match incase of staining or needing to re-dye
•if it’s suede, will the dye rub off easily or should i get it treated beforehand?
•is it sturdy if needed?
•is it lined?

fashion is about so much more than the stores we go to and the clothes we like to wear.
it intersects environmental, psychological, societal, political issues all at once every single moment of every single day.
so even after ten years in the industry, that is one thing that is always in the back of my mind.
