International Festival on contemporary conflicts.
July 6-12, 2026
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Today, #WARMFestival2026 opens in Sarajevo with a week of films, exhibitions, books and conversations shaped by places where conflict is lived, witnessed and documented in real time. From Gaza, Iran, Ukraine and Iraq to other stories carried through this year’s program, WARM brings together voices that ask us to look beyond headlines and stay with what is often difficult to see.

Through the work of journalists, artists, filmmakers, writers and witnesses, the festival opens a space for attention, reflection and encounter. It does not offer easy conclusions, but invites us to listen carefully, think deeply and remain present with the realities these stories come from.

We invite you to follow the program, join us throughout the week and be part of WARM Festival 2026. #Sarajevo taken in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina by @warm.festival

UPRISINGS: GLOBAL - The Exhibition

An uprising comes from below, from the roots of society. It begins when people will no longer accept what is given. When discontent becomes disobedience.

The past decade has brought an extraordinary wave of uprisings. Across continents, protesters watch one another. From Kathmandu to Belgrade, Santiago de Chile to Dhaka, Hong Kong to Tehran, images, symbols and tactics travel, mutate, reappear. From one movement to the next, a global language of revolt emerges.
Anger is ancient. So is rebellion against power, injustice, corruption and inequality.

Revolt begins with an act. An image escapes and transforms that act into the spark of another uprising.

You can visit the exhibit during Bayeux festival for war correspondents.

@sarajevofilmfestival and WARM Foundation are launching a new international film festival in Sarajevo, with its first edition taking place from 24 to 28 November 2026.

The new festival grows out of a long-standing collaboration between the two organisations, and follows last year’s WARM Movies, a three-day programme at Kino Meeting Point that brought together conflict-related films selected through the WARM network, their filmmakers and Sarajevo audiences. The response to the screenings and conversations encouraged WARM and Sarajevo Film Festival to develop the idea into a larger annual event.

While documentary cinema will be at the heart of the festival, the programme will not be limited to documentaries. It will also include fiction, short, archival and hybrid films, with a particular interest in war and conflict, human rights, investigative journalism, reconciliation and memory, as well as films exploring environmental destruction, climate-related conflicts and the environment as both a consequence and a cause of war, as part of the WARM Earth initiative.

An important part of the programme will be the WARM Selection, presenting films selected through the WARM Foundation and its international network of journalists, filmmakers, artists and others working in and around conflicts. Screenings will be accompanied by conversations with filmmakers and people directly connected to the subjects and contexts of the films.

Special attention will be given to organisations and filmmakers working in conflict areas, paying tribute to Sarajevo’s own experience of wartime cinema and to the filmmakers, initiatives and institutions that emerged from it and continue its legacy.

The festival will take place annually around 25 November, Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Statehood Day, creating an end-of-year gathering in Sarajevo around films, people and conversations that matter.

The first edition will take place 24–28 November 2026 in Sarajevo. by @warm.festival

During the 32nd Sarajevo Film Festival, WARM is reopening the Red Cross Building, the former Sutjeska Cinema, to present the exhibition “GAZA: The Chronicle of a Genocide.” First shown at WARM Festival in July, it returns for those who missed it and those who wish to see it again.

The exhibition features the work of Palestinian photographer Ali Jadallah for Anadolu Agency, documenting Gaza from 8 October 2023 to the present. Curated by Damir Šagolj, with exhibition design by Lejla Hodžić, and produced by the WARM Foundation in partnership with Gallery 11/07/95 and the Prix Bayeux Calvados-Normandy for War Correspondents.

Open until Saturday, August 22, from 12 PM to 8 PM. 💛

As part of the exhibition IRAN 2026: A Chronicle, presented at the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina during the WARM Festival 2026, visitors encountered a text that became one of the exhibition’s central narrative threads.

Originally written for a private gathering in London and presented without attribution at the author’s request, the text offered a deeply personal reflection on the events unfolding in Iran during 2026. Within the exhibition, it stood alongside the photographs not to explain them, but as another voice from the same moment in history.

The text also inspired @bojanfabrika visual language for the exhibition. Rather than publishing it here as plain text, we are presenting it in the form designed by Bojan, preserving the relationship between words and design that became an integral part of IRAN 2026: A Chronicle.

We are now publishing it separately so it can be read on its own, beyond the exhibition space, while remaining part of the larger chronicle created through the project. by @warm.festival

For three days during #WARMFestival2026, the DJ / Music Workshop for Women in BiH gathered participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina with little or no previous DJ experience, under the guidance of NOUR, DJ, activist, creative director and founder of @aswatnastudio, and through music, mixing and their first steps behind the decks, gave them space to practice, explore creativity and build confidence in a supportive environment.

At the festival closing party, they showed their creativity behind the decks.

Thank you to all participants for the energy they brought into the workshop, and for sharing it with us on the festival’s final night.

This activity was implemented under the Women Lead BiH initiative, supported by the UN Peacebuilding Fund. @unitednations.bih

Uprisings was one of the new projects presented during #WARMFestival2026, developed by the WARM Foundation in partnership with the Bayeux Calvados-Normandy Award for War Correspondents.

The presentation opened a conversation about photography, reporting and archives, and about the way uprisings enter public memory through images, documents and testimonies.

The discussion continued with Alice Gabriner, Thomas Dworzak, Patrick Chauvel, Stéphane Siohan and Damir Šagolj, moderated by Carol Isoux.

IRAN 2026: A Chronicle has been extended for one more week at the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

After its opening during #WARMFestival2026, we are returning to this carefully assembled exhibition and to the photographs by Aslon Arfa, Fatemeh Behboudi, Morteza Nikoubazl, Mohsen Rezaei and Akbar Tavakkoli.

Together, their works form a collective exhibition on recent events in Iran.

The photo project was coordinated by Aslon Arfa. The exhibition also includes Shahr-e Farang, with images from the Thomas Dworzak Collection, edited by Alice Gabriner.

The extension gives this exhibition, and the photographers behind it, more time with the audience.

Use this additional week to visit IRAN 2026: A Chronicle at the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Another festival moment we are returning to: Decades-Old Story of Sarajevo ‘Sniper Safari’ Still in the Realm of Rumour, presented by Tommaso Siviero and Azem Kurtić.

Based on BIRN’s investigation, the presentation looked at the long-standing claims known as Sarajevo “Sniper Safari”, and at why, decades later, the story still remains between public memory, testimony and verified evidence.

It brought the focus back to documented facts, unresolved questions and the responsibility of journalism when working with stories connected to the siege of Sarajevo.
