Meet Zippy. Purposely bred at the misleadingly named Coffs Coast Wildlife “Sanctuary” (previously known as Pet Porpoise Pool). Zippy has spent his entire life in captivity, exploited for “entertainment.”

Thanks to our MP @emma.hurst's work in Parliament, NSW has banned the commercial breeding of dolphins in captivity. But Zippy and other dolphins remain there, kept in small barren pools and still treated like circus animals.

Zippy just had surgery for cancer in his mouth.

Captivity is inherently cruel, but exploiting a dolphin recovering from cancer is a new low, and it exposes exactly what this facility prioritises.

It is highly irresponsible from a veterinary and public safety perspective to allow the public to touch an animal who just had surgery.

The risks are real:
-Infection: A surgical wound in the mouth is an open gateway to the bloodstream.
-Contamination: Touching the water or the animal introduces human-borne bacteria, oils, and pathogens.
-Stress and Pain: Post-operative recovery should be quiet and sterile, not a photo op.

A real sanctuary puts welfare first. It provides proper recovery. It is about retirement, not risking animals' lives for ticket sales. Zippy, the other dolphins and all animals deserve exactly that. Space to heal, rest and live without being used for "entertainment”.

Join us at the Empty The Tanks rally.

SANCTUARY OR DECEPTION?

Welcome to @coffscoastwildlifesanctuary Coffs Coast Wildlife Sanctuary in Coffs Harbour, Australia — formerly known as Pet Porpoise Pool.

A deplorable facility built in 1970 that has changed its name three times, but not its practices.

This is not a sanctuary.
This is a roadside attraction rebranded to mislead the public.

Behind the word “sanctuary” lies endless exploitation and animals living in deplorable conditions.

This is Bella, Zippy, and Jet — three remaining captive-born dolphins.

For years, they have been confined to this tiny, shallow concrete pool just 1.82 meters deep — reportedly 20% smaller than legal standards.

These are not rescued animals.
They were born in captivity, bred for one purpose: entertainment.

They perform and are subjected to endless interaction with tourists through several programs this fake sanctuary sells.

Zippy (37), an elderly dolphin suffering from papillomavirus, underwent cancer removal surgery in which part of his tongue was removed.

He was performing until the day before his surgery — and back to the circus immediately after.

This facility holds over 40 animals — all confined, all part of a system that profits from captivity while hiding behind the illusion of rescue.

Sea lions are used during private parties to walk among guests, paint, and pose for photos.
When they are not performing, this is where they are kept.
Endless circles with nowhere to go.

This is not conservation.
This is not education.
This is exploitation — repackaged.

Please share and help us show the truth behind this deplorable attraction.
Places like this need to be shut down and animals relocated to better conditions.

Join us on May 9, 2026, outside the Coffs “sanctuary” to speak up. taken in Coffs Coast Wildlife Sanctuary by @warriorforanimals

Dolphins in backyard swimming pools is completely unnatural for these highly intelligent animals that travel vast distances in the wild. Dolphins as entertainment is nothing to be proud of and the Coffs Coast is becoming a global embarrassment because of this. Boasting about a home having dolphins in these tiny pools is something that nobody thinks is acceptable. Priotising your homes window views and your dominion over the lives of these animals is seriously out of touch with reality. 💔🐬

This family encourages Coffs Harbour tourists to jump into the pools for “the ultimate dolphin experience” and even get a dolphin ride across the pool. All this is part of trying to keep this family’s dream home a float despite the living conditions for the animals being among the worst in the world. 😢

Thankfully momentum is building and regularly there are lot’s of compassionate people right outside the door step to explain that this is seriously unacceptable and outdated. This is important because when enough tourists stop swimming with the dolphins then this ends. 🙏

4 SEA LIONS DEAD IN UNDER 3 MONTHS! ONE SUFFOCATED TO DEATH!

PLEASE CLICK THE LINK IN OUR BIO TO HELP !

Bruce (23), Mahi (15), Sake (14) and Marina (12) died between June and August 2026 under the care of Sea Lion Splash / FL Sea Lion Encounters.

OFFICIAL CAUSES OF DEATH, ACCORDING TO NOAA RECORDS:

BRUCE, 23 — Asphyxiation from a tracheal obstruction caused by an infiltrating lipoma. A tumor obstructed his airway, and he suffocated to death. According to information provided to TideBreakers, no veterinarian was on-site, and veterinary consultations were conducted over the phone. Serious questions must be answered about whether timely treatment could have prevented his suffering.

MAHI, 15 & SAKE, 14 — Both died ON THE SAME DAY from pulmonary edema (fluid buildup in their lungs).

MARINA, 12 — Acute stress hypothermia, a fatal drop in body temperature.

FOUR DEATHS. THREE MONTHS. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

Help us shut this horror show down and relocate the two surviving sea lions to safety!

Easton and Salsa remain at the company’s facility in Myakka City, Florida, where they are reportedly confined to deteriorating backyard-style concrete pools with dangerously contaminated water, suffering from eye problems, skin lesions and poor physical condition.

Despite multiple deaths and serious animal welfare concerns, the Myakka City facility continues to offer paid interactions with the two surviving sea lions, Easton and Salsa.

SICK ANIMALS, CRUMBLING POOLS, CONTAMINATED WATER AND NO VETERINARIAN ON-SITE. HOW IS THIS ACCEPTABLE?

HOW MANY MORE MUST SUFFER AND DIE BEFORE THIS OPERATION IS SHUT DOWN?

We demand an immediate investigation, accountability for these deaths, an end to animal exploitation and URGENT RELOCATION OF EASTON AND SALSA!

USDA: AnimalCare@usda.gov
  ac.complaints@usda.gov
NOAA: contact.nmfs.ole.sed@noaa.gov

SHARE THIS. DEMAND ACTION. NO MORE DEATHS!

We made history and now we will continue to make sure that greyhound racing ends everywhere not just at Wentworth Park. Emma Hurst is as determined as ever to make sure that it’s completely shut down in New South Wales. It’s time to bring back the ban on greyhound racing. ❤️🐶

Right outside the last ever greyhound race at Wentworth Park, Glebe! Everyone is being reminded that greyhounds are pets not bets right outside the races for the final ever race. This is just the beginning as now hopefully the rest of the racetracks can be closed across Australia as momentum continues. 🐕❤️

Stand in front of an elephant enclosure long enough and you’ll probably see a slow, rhythmic sway, side to side, over and over. Most people read it as a quirk — something elephants just do. It isn’t.

It’s called a stereotypy: a repetitive, purposeless movement with no external cause. It’s also something wild elephants essentially don’t do — stereotypic behavior is considered specific to captivity, not seen in animals free to roam, forage, and socialize on their own terms. The most rigorous look at how common it’s become in U.S. zoos comes from a 2016 epidemiological study (Greco, Meehan, Hogan, Leighty, Mellen, Mason & Mench, PLOS ONE) that filmed 89 elephants across 39 AZA-accredited zoos. 85.4 percent performed stereotypic behavior during the day; 68.8 percent did it at night. By daytime, it was the second most frequent behavior these elephants engaged in, after feeding.

The same study is specific about what raises and lowers the risk — which matters, because it means this isn’t just “some elephants are more anxious than others.” Time spent housed alone raised it. Each additional inter-zoo transfer raised it further. What brought it down: time with juvenile elephants, more engagement with keepers, bigger social groups.

Here’s the part that matters most: even the elephants with the best of those conditions still showed it. The study’s own authors are blunt about why — once stereotypic behavior develops, it may not be possible to eliminate it completely. Better management can lower how often it happens. It can’t undo the underlying change.

A related 2024 paper (Doyle, Rally, O’Brien, Tennison, Marino & Jacobs, PeerJ) adds that in some elephants, it isn’t occasional — it can consume up to 20 percent of their entire waking day. Researchers trace the mechanism to disrupted dopamine and serotonin signaling, the same systems that govern voluntary movement, worn down by chronic, understimulating captivity.

Swaying isn’t a personality trait. It isn’t something a better enclosure fixes once it’s already happened. It’s what captivity does to an elephant’s nervous system — and the damage doesn’t check out when the elephant does. by @warriorforanimals

He was so excited to be in the tiger enclosure and wanted everyone to know that he was getting his dream experience. However these are wild animals , they are unpredictable and can’t be controlled. They are not cuddly toys but have their wild instincts even if they are in a cage. This is just another reminder that animals are not entertainment. The Yorkshire Wildlife Park was slow in helping the man and the design of the habitat was not good enough in preventing trespass. Modern zoos are not only meant to keep animals in to prevent escapes but also keep people out by having it fully secured so people can’t fall in or climb into the animal’s environment. This was all preventable.

Carina died on July 2nd. She'd gone down — unable to stand without help — three times in five days. According to a submission sent to us by someone identifying themselves as a former Busch Gardens Tampa Bay elephant keeper, the response fell short each time: incomplete overnight observation, staff shortages, and protocol breaches during exactly the emergencies where none of that can be allowed to happen.

The submitter's own words: "it is clear that Busch Gardens is not an appropriate facility to house elephants and should not receive more from any other facility." They say that conclusion is shared by nearly ten former members of the elephant team from the past decade — not outside critics, but people who did this work. Busch Gardens didn't wait to find out if they were right.

This has been reported to both USDA and AZA, and it echoes a pattern this page has documented for months. The elephants who needed that warning heeded are already there.

DOLPHIN FALLS OUT OF TANK DURING LIVE SHOW AT CHIMELONG, CHINA!

On October 2, 2026, a dolphin at Chimelong Ocean Kingdom in Zhuhai, China, suddenly flew out of the performance pool and landed on a hard concrete platform in front of horrified spectators.

The dolphin was visibly struggling, desperately moving its body as it lay helpless outside the water.

BUT WHAT HAPPENED NEXT IS EQUALLY DISTURBING.

As the dolphin struggled, the show continued. Footage appears to show trainers directing other dolphins to perform, drawing the audience’s attention away from the animal in distress.

Staff eventually used a stretcher to remove the stranded dolphin.

Chimelong claims the dolphin suffered no serious injuries, but no independent veterinary report has been made publicly available to substantiate that claim.

TideBreakers has contacted both the park and the relevant authorities demanding answers about the dolphin’s injuries, current health condition and veterinary care following the accident.
