Menstrual Hygiene & Hand Hygiene Campaign 🇳🇬 Promoting clean and healthy habits in schools and markets

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

“A Basic Human Need” - At What Cost?

This documentary captures the daily struggles of market vendors who must pay to access external toilet facilities while trying to earn a living.

It highlights the unfortunate reality many face as they work long hours daily with nowhere to relieve themselves safely or with dignity unless they can afford these pay toilets. taken in Kuto - Abeokuta by @washforher

Sanitation is a right, not a privilege. Let’s build a world where every space is clean, every person is dignified.

We know how daunting it can be to navigate all the questions that come up around menstruation. During our outreach today, the girls asked so many questions, including:

• Do you have to have breast growth before your period starts?
No, breast development and menstruation are separate processes that don’t necessarily align. Periods can start before, during or after breast growth.

• Are there any drugs that can help with menstrual cramps?
Yes, over-the-counter pain medications like ibuprofen or acetaminophen can provide relief for menstrual cramps. Heating pads and gentle exercise can also help.

• What happens if your period comes twice in one month?
Irregular cycles are common, especially in the first few years after starting your period. Seeing a doctor can help determine the cause and ensure everything is healthy.

• Why do people’s menstrual cycles sync up when they live together?
This is a common phenomenon, but the exact reason isn’t fully understood. Hormone levels and exposure to pheromones may play a role.

• How do you properly use a tampon?
Inserting a tampon takes some practice, but the key is to relax, go slowly, and make sure it’s positioned comfortably. Don’t be afraid to experiment to find what works best for you.

6, 7, 8, 9, 10, then I rub them all again 🤲

Why did you rub them so? 🤔
Because I want the germs to go 🦠

Which fingers have you done? ✋
All of them, now that was fun 😄 by @washforher

Open defecation and sanitation diseases: The tragic outcomes of missing toilet and handwashing access.

Lack of toilets and water fuels open defecation. Inadequate handwashing spreads disease.

No toilet, no water = continued open defecation. No handwashing stations = rampant sanitation-linked illnesses.

Our work is driving positive change in local communities. We invite you to join us or partner with our initiative.☑️ by @washforher

Many of the young girls we met during our outreach didn’t know much about periods and proper hygiene. How should we approach this as a society? by @washforher
