The Washington Post won Best In Show for medium and large organizations at the Society for News Design’s 47th Creative Competition. The award was for a multiplatform line of coverage of conflict in the Middle East.

According to snd.org, “The judges described the Washington Post’s entry as ‘work that is at an extremely elevated level.’ They noted a strong sense of clarity and power with the approach — ‘it’s all of the storytelling levers you can pull.’

They described the work as emotionally impactful, visually stunning and rich in detail, with every aspect of design reinforcing the subject and making an important statement. It ‘displays the state of storytelling and visual journalism.’” by @washingtonpostdesign

Last fall, senior interactive news designer @yutaochenn set out on a dinosaur road trip through the American West, documenting the connection between the land and creatures that once roamed it.

Traveling 1,139 miles from Salt Lake City to Denver, through 11 towns and cities, he photographed museums, theme parks, as well as roadside attractions featuring dinosaur motifs. Some were quirky. Some were profound.

It turns out the West isn’t just rich in fossil discoveries. Dinosaurs have become part of the region’s visual identity, woven into the fabric of its landscape and communities.

(From December) The Washington Post’s Ins and Outs for 2026 have arrived.

“The List” is a Washington Post tradition dating back to 1978, letting people know which things are “In” and which are “Out” — which celebrities are no longer “hot” and which slang terms and emojis to adopt if you wish to remain young forever.

(From December) For many Latinos, Nochebuena — the night before Christmas — shines brighter than most holidays.

Last year, increased immigration enforcement across the country cast a shadow on the holiday for many Latino families.

Designer @padillac.art pitched this piece to The Post, where reporters spoke with families across the country navigating the holiday.

“Billionaire Nation,” a Washington Post series, examines how the wealthiest have amassed unprecedented political power.

Senior interactive news designer Tucker Harris created analog illustrations by cutting and weaving bills and photographs for the seven-story series.

No, the money is not real — as a sign by Tucker’s desk made clear to the newsroom each day.

At this time of year, it’s tempting to stay inside: The sun has set before most people finish their workday. Brisk winds blow already chilly temperatures even lower. Your couch, a Netflix series and takeout are always beckoning you back.

But winter gets a bad rap. And it offers particular pleasures that won’t be nearly as enjoyable (or available) in six months, like whirling around an outdoor ice rink or savoring dishes starring melty cheese.

Your reward for climbing Mount Fuji? 🗻 A steaming bowl of udon and an unforgettable sunrise.

Many climbers swear that your exhaustion makes the food taste better at 12,400 feet. Washington Post photojournalist Salwan Georges wanted to know if that was true.
