An excellent Medicine Grand Rounds today by Dr. Murakami on “Nephrology in Cancer Care: From Kidney Toxicity to Advances in Onconephrology.” A timely and insightful discussion on the evolving role of nephrologists in caring for patients with cancer.

Double whammy? Quadruple whammy? Over the last two weeks, four of our seniors took the Grand Rounds stage and taught the @washudeptmed about topics that matter for the patients we serve.

Dr. Ryan Dingle, Sickle Cell Disease for the Primary Care Physician
Dr. Karoliina Yang, AI at the Bedside: Promise, Peril, and the Trainees Caught in Between
Dr. Nick Griffith, Antimicrobial Stewardship
Dr. Liz Twichell, Cognitive Load Theory and Curriculum Design in the ICU

Bonus points to @wustlpulmcrit fellows Donovan Watza and Amina Kunnummal (and Dr. Pico de Gato) for the vent teaching and hands-on trach training.

Four seniors, four talks, one very proud chief team. 👏

This week we got to learn from our own.

Two of our PGY-3s took the podium for grand rounds. Dr. Ashley Debauge covered lipid lowering therapy and cardiovascular risk stratification, including a study she is designing with Dr. Katchi on older adults with hyperlipidemia and a CAC score of 0. Dr. Noah Romero Nakajima followed with a talk on what motivates learners, drawing on self-determination theory and his work with the Clinical Problem Solvers. @cpsolvers

This is what protected scholarly time makes possible: residents with space to ask big questions, faculty who invest in the answers, and experts who join the discussion. World experts in lipids like Dr. Anne Carol Goldberg, and expert educators like Drs. Abby Spencer and Eva Aagaard.

Incredibly proud of these two.

Happy Pride from WashU Medicine! 🏳️‍🌈
We kicked things off with an unofficial Pride social on Friday, then showed up for St. Louis all weekend long.
At our @pridestl booth, attendees learned how to spot the signs of opioid overdose and how to use Narcan. We handed out fentanyl test strips, safe sex supplies, and sunscreen to thousands of patrons.
The booth was spearheaded by Dr. Nathan Neilson, former program graduate and now a hospitalist at @barnes_jewish . Pitching in alongside him were people from every level of training and a mix of professions, all working the booth together.
One day rain, one day blazing sun. 🌧️☀️ Our people stayed out there through both. This is the work, and these are our neighbors. 💗
