July, 22nd 2008. Candlebox release their fourth studio album Into the Sun. The album came after, a 7 year hiatus. Kevin Martin wrote Stand in 2005 thinking it would be a song for The Hiwatts, yet considering it "too Candlebox" for the project. A year later Rhino records contacted him about a "Best of" compilation album. Martin talked with Peter Klett about promoting this album with a tour. The success of the tour, convinced the band still had it in them. Much like with their debut album, Candlebox performed the new songs live for several months to ensure their quality.This is one of their best bodies of work. July 21st, 1998. Candlebox releases their third studio album Happy Pills. Featuring Pearl Jam's first drummer Dave Krusen, and co-produced by Ron Nevison, someone who had "a tad of" experience working with bands like Led Zeppelin, Heart, Europe, and solo artists the size of Ozzy Osbourne. The album includes more acoustic songs with different tunings, and the themes of heartbreak, divorce, depression, as well as coming to terms, and moving on go through the 12 tracks of the album. This photo is from last night, when we were chatting about life with my wife and sister. Unfortunately, we found out about the passing of this musician, designer & photographer minutes after the news was out. This album was spinning. Jennifer had already beaten thyroid cancer decades ago. Sadly, an aggressive cancerous brain tumor stopped her from joining the final L7 tour. Family, friends, artists & fans joined the campaign for funding her treatment, recovery and ongoing care. Next Monday would have been @chriscornellofficial's 62nd birthday.It's hard to put into words just how deeply music can shape our lives. Change and experimentation are always a great thing. Today we celebrate 57 years of The Soft Parade. The Doors fourth studio album where they decided to push the boundaries, and include, horns, and genres they had yet to try. History was harsh on the album, but now we know it's the band trying new things. Every artist has the right to do so. Nevertheless, the album did feature a few hits like Touch Me, Tell All the People, Running Blue, & Wishful Sinful. The Soft Parade marked the first time the band credited the songs separately, showing how Robby Krieger had a stronger presence on the album while Morrison was more involved into writing poetry and filmmaking than spending time in the studio with his band mates. The documentaryI really enjoyed It's Never Over: Jeff Buckley because it didn't feel like a typical rock documentary. Instead of just focusing on Jeff Buckley as a legendary singer, it showed him as a real person: talented, sensitive, funny, and sometimes uncertain. The interviews and old footage made me feel much closer to him than I expected. However, there's a whole sad aura that surrounds his story that you can't help but to feel as emotional as his mother, and best friends did on some of the documentary's passages. #jeffbuckley #90s #alternative #vinyl #vinyligclub The emotional sideWhat affected me the most was how the film handled his short life. It never felt sensationalized; it simply showed how much music meant to him and how difficult it was to deal with the attention that came after his success. By the end, I felt both inspired by his talent and saddened by how little time he had to keep creating. The 90s were surely a unique time. The rise to stardom of incredibly talented artists, but also their quick, and unfortunate downfall. Short but consistent discography Jeff Buckley's discography is remarkably small, yet its impact has been enormous. During his lifetime, he released only one completed studio album, Grace (1994), a record that blended rock, folk, jazz, blues, and ethereal vocals into something that still feels timeless. Songs like "Last Goodbye," "Lover, You Should've Come Over," and his unforgettable interpretation of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" have become defining moments in modern music.After Buckley's tragic death in 1997, Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk (1998) collected the songs he had been working on for what would have been his second album, offering a glimpse of a darker, more experimental musical direction. Although unfinished, it remains an essential listen for anyone wanting to understand where Buckley was headed creatively.Over the years, numerous live albums, compilations, and archival releases have expanded his legacy.
