🗣️ PUBLIC MEETING: The Future of Waterworks Access 🗣️

Waterbury Fire House, 43 South Main Street

The Edward Farrar Utility District (EFUD) is holding a third public meeting to discuss the protection and management of the Waterworks property in Waterbury and Stowe, including recreational use and access.

Conservation interests, stewardship organizations (including VMBA), and the public will all have an opportunity to comment on how the land will be managed and used going forward.

If you care about trail access, recreational opportunities, and the future of the Waterworks property, now is your chance to weight in.

Mark your calendar and be prepared to advocate for the trails and outdoor access you value.

Our perspective is that these trails have provided a valuable community asset for decades, and that many - but not all - of the existing trails in the Waterworks parcel provide sustainable recreation opportunities without impacting the water supply. Our hope is for a solution that allows for continued access in appropriate areas while ensuring EFUD can fulfill its obligation to provide safe, clean, and affordable drinking water - one that WATA is willing to help achieve.

Hey community members,

Last night, an individual or group of individuals went out and intentionally destroyed a dirt feature on Six Flags at Perry Hill. This feature was built by our talented trail crew using WATA member dollars. The damage was severe and left a section of the trail unsafe to ride. Our staff then spent part of their weekend restoring the feature. This is the second act of vandalism at Perry in the last month, another was defacing a handmade sign from a volunteer.

It is unacceptable to destroy or modify trail features without WATA’s knowledge or approval. Vandalism, inappropriate stickers, or damage to WATA resources at the trailhead or in the networks will not be tolerated. These are resources for everyone in the bike community, and deserve the respect that comes with that. If this continues, we will install trail cams to protect these community resources.

🛠️ DISNEYLAND TRAIL REHABILITATION 🛠️

Meet Alex Showerman with Waterbury Trails Alliance, showing off major rehabilitation work on Disneyland - funded by a Chapter Trail Grant and Velocio Naming Grant.

They're improving the lower half of Disneyland by hand to make it more dynamic, resilient, and improve the rider experience. This is the work that builds better trails.

Join us September 12th from 1PM-5PM and bring your crew to ride!

WATA members get $10 lift access, plus a free raffle ticket at check-in. Anyone and everyone is welcome to join us with music and fun all afternoon! Food will be available at the James Moore Tavern and the Handlebar will be in full swing right below the lift.

The grand prize? Ride at Bolton Valley for free for the rest of the season.

We’ve got additional raffle prizes from VMBA and Vermont Adaptive for more chances to win!

There will be an exclusive update on Phase 1 of the Moretown trail network, you’re not going to want to miss it. We break ground Spring 2027 and it only gets more fun from here.

The WATA Pump Track Refresh is complete! Instead of hosting another volunteer night this week WATA wants to celebrate with the community and all meet up to enjoy the new refresh. Exciting things ahead at the Tomasso Moretown project as we continue to plan the next addition to the @watavt trail network.

Our goal is to fill the gaps we’ve been hearing about from the community; adding more green, approachable beginner terrain while also creating proper progressive lines for seasoned rippers.
