Why do dive watches have a rotating bezel?

Before a dive, the marker is lined up with the minute hand to track how much time has elapsed underwater.

And there’s an important safety detail- a proper dive bezel only rotates counterclockwise. If it gets knocked accidentally, it can only show that more time has passed, never less.

A simple feature with a pretty important job.

The Seiko Prospex Samurai 60th Anniversary edition takes one of Seiko’s most recognisable dive-watch designs and gives it a slightly more refined feel.

The updated 41mm stainless-steel case is smaller and more streamlined than previous Samurai models, but it still keeps the sharp, angular look that gives the collection its name. The textured green dial is inspired by sunlight filtering through ocean water, with silver-tone hands and LumiBrite markers keeping everything clear and easy to read.

Created in partnership with PADI, this model also carries the proper dive-watch features you’d expect from Prospex, including a one-way rotating bezel, screw-down crown, screw case back and 200 metres of water resistance.

Inside is Seiko’s reliable Calibre 4R35 automatic movement, making this a practical everyday mechanical watch as well as a capable diver.

Did you know Maserati makes watches too?

Since 2012, the Italian carmaker has brought its automotive design language into watchmaking, and these two models show just how different that can look on the wrist.

The Successo R8871621015 goes for a sharper blue and rose-gold combination, with a 44mm case, blue leather strap and quartz chronograph movement. The Traguardo R8871612025 takes things darker with a black dial and strap contrasted against a rose gold-tone 45mm case, plus 100 metres of water resistance.

Two very different watches, but both carry that sporty Italian influence you’d expect from the Maserati name.

The new G-SHOCK MT-G MTGB4000B-1A is what happens when G-SHOCK takes toughness and pushes it into seriously high-tech territory.

The Seiko 5 Sports SRPK11K is a good example of how Seiko can bring an older design back without making it feel stuck in the past.

Inspired by the 1969 “Double Hurricane”, this Special Edition takes cues from the bold colours and styling of late-60s Seiko 5 Sports models, then wraps them into a familiar SKX-style case. The result feels retro without looking like a straight reissue.

The 42.5mm stainless-steel case houses Seiko’s 4R36 automatic movement, with hand-winding, a day-date display and around 41 hours of power reserve. You also get a unidirectional bezel, Lumibrite hands and markers, curved Hardlex glass and 100 metres of water resistance.

The transparent case back is finished with “Special Edition” engraving, adding a nice collector-focused detail to a watch that is still easy to wear every day.

Lume is one of those watch features you barely think about- until you’re somewhere dark and still need to read the time.

It works by absorbing light throughout the day, whether that’s sunlight or indoor lighting, then glowing when the light disappears. Depending on the watch, lume can be applied to the hands, hour markers and even the bezel.

Different brands use different luminous materials, but Seiko’s LumiBrite is especially well known for its strong, long-lasting glow.

Simple feature, but a very useful one.
