From concept to execution, one step closer to completing the batik-themed sleeve on my right arm thanks to @cii_tattoo location Puri Orchard.

As you can see, I went with the pure line-work band rather than the original design as I thought the black-and-gray would look too heavy and dark.

I got this for my birthday from wifey @jona_pottgerxmenuacantik and I'm super stoked with how it turned out!

People consist of roughly 60 percent water.
I guess it's safe to say that, in my case that's probably more likely to be coffee...

I've always been fascinated with the concept of a coat of arms, and after doing a deep dive into my family history I decided to create one myself.

The design of the coat of arms is based on that of Armenia, as it already has an eagle and a lion for its supporters. In my case these are a perfect fit as they represent respectively Indonesia and The Netherlands since they both play a major role in my ancestry.

The contents of the heraldic shield however are quite different and unique in their combination. From the top left clockwise:
- The three crosses taken from Amsterdam representing the virtues Determination, Bravery and Compassion.
This is where my family history started back in 1770.
- The wreath taken from the old coat of arms of former Batavia, now Jakarta, representing Victory. This is where my great grandfather was born in 1868, starting my family history in the former Dutch Indies.
- The sheaf of seven arrows, taken from The Netherlands, representing the seven provinces and Power of Cooperation.
This is where my father moved to in 1956, and I was subsequently born in 1980.
- The chain taken from Indonesia representing Equality, Connection and Continuity. This is where I moved in 2012 to start my own family.
- The griffin as the main charge in the middle of the heraldic shield, a perfect blend of the eagle and the lion, representing Wisdom and Vigilance.

The guardians of the shield are standing on their traditional weapons. The eagles stand on a Keris, and the lion on a broad sword.

Finally, the motto underneath reads "numquam obliviscere unde veneris" which translates to "never forget where you came from".

I think this would work great as a tattoo!

Working on the upper part of my sleeve...

I'm not quite satisfied with the result yet, but luckily for me it's just a mockup I did.

The hard thing is that Kawung pattern, like most Batik designs, consists of repeated elements that are all supposed to be of the same size. This quickly leads to a static, rigid and solid look with no freedom of movement or space to breathe...

Then again, this is just my first try and I'm still figuring out how make the motif flow and follow the curves of my body. I'm still learning...

Imagining my next tattoo...

I plan to create a sleeve on my right arm, around my existing ink, ending in a band at the bottom.

The whole sleeve will consist of several different Batik patterns uniting the diversity of Indonesia on my arm.

For the band I have chosen to go with the Dayak Aso' pattern representing protection, loyalty, bravery, and respect for all living things...

Tattoo number 6: ode to my family

Where my third tattoo is a symbol of the family I was born into, this one is for the family God gave me through marriage.

My wife's name, our son's name and my name all start with the letter J. Hence the J's and Roman numeral III.
In the first photo you can see my wife's left wrist on top of my right wrist. Our son is still too young right now, but he will get this tattoo from us when he turns 18.

Tattoo number 5: the bigger concept of family

In Makassar language and script "pa'bannang" means family in the broader sense of the word.

As two people get married not only are their two families united, but all relatives that are somehow connected to the pair as well. Thus even in-laws from both sides are from then on joined together...
