My Oregon Challenge became a pizza challenge… here are some of my unedited notes:

Day 1: 11.5 out of California, got to border at 12:15, hung with Bostonians, left at 12:50. Arrived at camp 10:30 pm, mile 1716.6. total 34.9 miles. 23.4 Oregon miles

Day 5: Started at 6:35. Arrived at Mazama village 9:45, 9.6 plus 1 off trail. Left 4:50, 1 mile back to trail. 18 miles total to fire watch tower on Rim Trail. Resupply and pizza, but yikes.

Day 8: Left at 8:05. arrived to shelter cove at 2:15 pm. 16 miles so far. leaving 7:40 pm. Not looking good 😂. 9:30 arrived at 1912.4. At least I had more pizza.

Day 10: Started 8:30 am. Ordered pizza at 2:15 pm. 13.7 trail miles. 15 total. Left back to trail at 4, 1.7 miles back to mile marker 15 on trail, 16.7 total.

Day 12: Started at 4:45 pm. Beginning of the 24ish hour challenge.

Day 13: Finished at 7 pm. 2052.5. 54.8 miles. 3 naps.

Day 15: Headed to… lunch… at the Timberline Lodge. Arrived around 1:30, stayed a few hours, ate an entire pizza. Made it to 2105.3 for camp.

Day 17: Left camp at 6:23 am, made it to breakfast with Elli, I need a break… taken in Oregon by @watchgabewalk

The NorCal blues hit super hard, if you can’t tell I was completely miserable 😂. That let the cool little moments hold so much more value, how often do you walk 1300 miles to a rave in the desert, or get to do karaoke for the first time, or happen to bump into a real life cinematographer at the midpoint anddd border to get some pictures for you.

Writing this for Gabe because he didn’t want to write this himself, but we thought friends, family & others should know. Gabe’s hike is on pause because of this stinking virus. He came home just in time, he’s safe with his family. The disappointment is REAL. Two years of planning and prep, skipping college for a year to be able to hike, working his ass off to earn the money, buying all the best gear he could...the disappointment. BUT....its on pause, not over. Maybe this year, maybe another...but he will be back. I gave him my word that we will do whatever it takes to get him there. He had an amazing time in the 100 miles he got to walk. He loved every minute. He’s proud of himself and we are proud of him too. Gabe’s still walking... -Amanda by @watchgabewalk
