The hype train has officially arrived at the station... literally!

Yes, I got the Longines Hydroconquest 39. Yes, I fell head over heels for the hype. And yes, I had to wait a painful 4 months for this piece because my AD couldn’t get their hands on one. Four. Whole. Months. Looks like even Longines was not prepared for the demand.

Was it worth the wait? Absolutely. Everything everyone else has said about this watch? Ditto. The proportions, the fit, the ceramic bezel... 10/10. Worth every single second waiting for it while watching countless posts and videos of people who got their hands on one.

And I thought I would not buy another dive watch anymore 😅 wrist time locked in with this one for the next couple of weeks.

3 things I genuinely didn’t know before owning a Rolex Datejust 36

1. Winding the crown ruined my entire watch collection...
It feels like gliding through warm butter. I’m not exaggerating. So smooth, zero effort. Every other watch in my collection now feels rough and gritty by comparison. How am I supposed to go back to winding anything else after this?

2. It catches way more light than you think...
I thought this was a serious watch for serious people in fancy suits. Nope, it shines like crazy. It is basically a pocket disco ball. But the crazy part is how versatile it actually is. It looks just as sharp with a plain white tee and beat-up jeans as it does with a tailored suit.

3. The Baader-Meinhof effect is real...
That is the fancy name for when you buy something and you suddenly see it everywhere. I always though everyone was wearing a submariner. I mean, the sub is still number 1, but now I swear every second person on the street has a DJ on their wrist. I cannot unsee it!

Anyone can relate? 😅

I usually wear the same watch for a month straight because decision-making is hard 🤷🏽‍♂️

But this week? Total identity crisis. One day, one watch, zero regrets. I could never do a one-watch-collection 😅

Which one gets to stay on the wrist for the rest of the month?

⚠️ TRIGGER WARNING: EXTREME BEZEL ASMR ⚠️

Turn the volume all the way up and enjoy how ridiculously crisp the bezel action of Longines' Hydroconquest is. This might be the most satisfying sound of the weekend 😅

How would you rate this bezel? And which watch in your collection has the best bezel sound?

I got my Longines Hydroconquest in 39mm a few days ago and I really love it, but ... there are a few details that I would change that nobody seems to be bothered by.

The truth is, it is an incredible watch with great wrist presence that punches way above its price point. But after wearing it for a few days, I noticed a few compromises.

⚖️ Dial Balance

The hour markers feel slightly off. Circular markers at 6 and 9 instead of sticks create a visual imbalance with the rectangular date window at 3. An easy fix would have been a circular date window to balance the dial out.

🔨 Bracelet & Push Pins

The steel bracelet itself feels premium and well-built. The H-links sit well on the wrist without pulling hairs. But using a cheap push-pin system at this price point feels like a cut corner. Screw links should have been the standard here.

🌡️ Micro-adjust clasp

On-the-fly micro-adjust is a huge plus. But the clasp has only 3 tiny positions to adjust and you only get a single half-link to find the perfect fit. Not so easy and you feel very limited. Longines could have easily made the clasp just a bit longer to add more positions for the micro-adjust.

Honestly, how did we ever survive without quick-adjust back in the day? Or maybe I am just spoilt from having the IWC Mark XX to compare with?

The Hydroconquest is still a lot of value for money. But these improvements would enhance the 10/10 experience even more. What do you think? Did I miss anything?

Sunday is funday! The Hydroconquest was built for 300m under water. I used it today to navigate the extreme depths of stroller duty at the zoo.

But I gotta be honest with you. I only checked the time today to see how long I have been staring at my new watch 😅

I think I found the leather equivalent of a mechanical watch 🤷🏽‍♂️

As a watch collector, you already know how easy it is to spend too much money on small details. Turns out, leather and notebook covers are just as dangerous.

If you love mechanical watches, you appreciate real craft: good materials, things built by hand, and stuff that gets better with age. That’s exactly what happened to me here.

Wifey and I visited @lamaison.paperrepublic (the retail boutique of @paper_republic in Vienna) two weekends in a row. The plan was just to look around. The reality: a grand voyageur each and a portfolio for the wifey.

Everything is made in Vienna with amazing Italian leather. Holding it in your hands feels just like winding a fine watch. It is pure quality.

A huge thank you to Ranee and Martin, who gave us the warmest, friendliest welcome and took so much time for us. I am very afraid that a brand-new addiction has officially started... and my wallet is not happy about it. taken in Paper Republic Notebooks by @watchpepe

I mean, I love my Black Bay GMT. The vintage charm, the Pepsi bezel, the sheer utility. It is an absolute beast of a traveler’s GMT. But living with it long-term reveals a few quirks that keep it from being 100% perfect on the wrist.

Here are 3 things that I would change:

1. Offer a downsized version: The 41mm case is not terrible on paper, but paired with Tudor’s slab-sided case design, it feels quite larger than it is. Bringing this down to 39mm profile like the Black Bay 58 would hit the absolute sweet spot for everyday wearability.

2. Fix the top-heavy balance: At nearly 15mm thick, it tends to roll on the wrist unless worn very snug. And there are lots of people who don't wear their watches tight. A shaved-down caseback, a slightly thinner bezel ring, or slimming the mid-case by a single millimeter would drop the center of gravity drastically and make it sit flat where it belongs.

3. Jubilee / 5-link bracelet with the T-Fit clasp: I actually fell out of love with this piece for a while because of how rigid the original faux-rivet bracelet felt. Putting it on a 5-link bracelet with micro-adjust on the fly completely revived it for me. It drapes around the wrist, distributes the weight better, and makes it feel like an entirely new watch. Tudor needs to offer this configuration straight out of the boutique, like they do for other models.
