Sensitive topic: This post contains references to pregnancy and childbirth.

Public figures including @thewhitmore, @adjoa.andoh, @beverleyknight , @mrsgifletcher, @myleeneklass, @yomi.adegoke, @sandeeigwe @drranj, Sir Stephen Fry and Sir Mark Rylance are calling on world leaders to act.

Right now, millions of women are being failed by the systems meant to keep them safe during childbirth.

Clean water, decent toilets, and good hygiene are not luxuries. They are the foundation of safe healthcare.

Yet too many health care facilities still operate without them, putting mothers, babies and healthcare workers at risk.

This is preventable.
The solutions exist.

Now world leaders must act to deliver clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene in health care facilities everywhere.

Sign the global petition via the link in our bio to demand clean water for every woman, every birth.

Thanks to you, over $30 million has already been raised for #TeamWater and the work is already underway to help 2 million people gain access to clean water.

In Rwanda, an incredible team has laid over 10 miles of pipe to bring clean water directly to communities. Until now, families only received piped water one day out of every 12. Today, a brand-new water kiosk means 12,000 people can count on clean, reliable water for decades to come.

This impact is only possible thanks to the generosity of thousands of donors and the support of partners like Hogan Lovells helping us get closer to our $40 million goal.

Together, we’re making clean water a reality.

29 years old. Pregnant with twins. No clinic. No clean water.

Dorcas Azongo had no choice but to cross flooded rivers in the middle of the night to find a safe place to give birth. She was turned away from the first clinic. The twins couldn't wait, so she delivered them in a hospital yard before reaching a bed.

Every two seconds, a woman gives birth without access to clean water, decent toilets or basic hygiene. For too many mothers, this is their reality.

Basile Ouedraogo, WaterAid communications specialist, met Dorcas and heard her story firsthand.

13 young women. A village bank. And banana fritters.

Meet the Chisungira youth group, 13 young women in Thundu, Malawi, who run their own businesses, teach about health and manage their own village bank.

Their Zitumbuwa, traditional banana fritters made from produce grown along the Chisambo river, feed straight back into the group’s savings, one coin at a time.

Since 2022, three clean water points have been installed in Thundu through the @wateraid and @wimbledonfdn partnership, giving communities like this the foundation they need to build, grow and thrive.

Everything starts with water.

Ghan is is one of our Class of 2026 Champions: “I am known in this community and in neighbouring communities mostly because of my work with water. If WaterAid’s drinking water project had not happened, I wouldn’t have this identity.”

At 50 years old, Ghan is a plumber who has helped shape his community by making sure the water keeps running.

For 1 in 10 people, basics like getting clean water are a daily struggle, which holds so many back from realising their full potential. Ghan has changed those odds for his community.

Chantal is is one of our Class of 2026 Champions: "If I met [my younger self], I would tell her that life is not about saying: “Here I am, and that’s all". We must face reality together, we must always stand firm and say: “Here I am, I will act.” We must stand up and be able to do something, not just for ourselves, but by opening up to those around us and living with what exists around us.

Chantal is a mother, not just to her own children but to her community. She has contributed to at least 3000 households accessing proper hygiene and healthcare!

For 1 in 10 people, basics like getting clean water are a daily struggle, which holds so many back from realising their full potential. Champions like Chantal need clean water to deliver their work, and the communities she works in all benefit because of it.

Mamavao is one of our Class of 2026 Champions: "If I could meet my younger self at 15 or 16 years old, I would tell her: “Little Ravao, remember well that later on you will achieve very great things, and you may even become a source of pride for others”.

Madeleine Ravaonarivo has done all of that and more. Known as Mamavao or Ravao, she is seen by women in her village as a living role model and true leader working for women's empowerment - leading and fighting for all women whenever they are.

But for 1 in 10 people, basics like getting clean water are a daily struggle, which holds so many back from realising their full potential. Mamavao has worked tirelessly to change those odds for women in her community, and she has succeeded.

Everyone should have the love and support to pursue their dreams. With my family, I’ve been so lucky to pursue mine in the sporting world and have their support behind me.

But for 1 in 10 people, basics like getting clean water is a daily struggle, which holds so many back from realising their full potential. Every champion needs clean water.

That’s why I’m supporting the To Be A Champion campaign with @wateraid and @wimbledonfdn – helping unleash everyone’s potential to be a champion.

“To my younger self: What you need to become a champion isn’t perfection – it’s resilience, discipline and people who keep you grounded. Never underestimate the power of your family's support. Their belief will carry you through every obstacle, setback and sacrifice.”
