Starting an official Water Buggy account. This is to show and talk about the need for water in downtown Spokane by the folks who have no access to clean water, and who suffer from dehydration and other health issues associated with the lack of clean drinking water. I'll also be talking about other forms of mutual aid that are needed downtown such as FOOD, of course, hygiene products, clothing, blankets, and a lot of other things like make-up, art supplies, phones, a stream of information about the area, etc. Dancing! Music! Fist bumps! But Water Buggy's main mission is to supply water to as many people as possible. Currently being run by one person driving and another person supporting from home AND ALL THE PEOPLE PRESENT! This is not a solo project. This is a sharing and mutual aid mission. The people who live downtown help us in huge ways, physically, emotionally, mentally, and with great empathy and gratefulness. It goes both ways. All ways. It's a family affair! We always take water and try not to run out. Popsicles are great, too. We take food when we can, with the goal of 3x a week. Clothes, shoes, bags and blankets are musts also. We want partners in crime. We want to see other water buggies here in Spokane and surrounding areas, other cities, the country, the world. We want to partner with and be in fellowship with other people and groups who are doing awesome work and being cool beans (ie @lilacmutualaid and others). All a water buggy needs is water and a driver and the financial support to run it. Everything else is welcome!! Creativity is fun! Let's make it pretty! Everyone deserves dignity as well as necessities! Solidarity is required. This is a cog in the revolution! Free Palestine! #WaterIsLife #WaterBuggy #Spokane #Homeless #Unhoused #Love #MutualAid #Dignity #révolution by @waterbuggyspokane
https://www.vote.org/ballot-tracker-tools/ I don't believe it matters. But I did it anyway, even though there's not a single person I made a dot next to who will or can do what needs to be done (except Michael). At all. I won't go deep into it, but I have no faith in this system or anyone I voted for. None. (except Michael) But I did it anyway. I think saying 'if you don't vote, it's a vote' is absolutely incorrect because it's incorrect. I think saying 'if you don't vote, don't bitch' is an asshole thing to say and plus it's just bullshit. The thing that gets me to vote no matter what is what other people have had to do to be able to vote. I'm honoring them. So do it anyway. Next year I'm going to make bumper stickers that say "do it anyway" about voting and get rich and house people lol. If you voted by mail, check and make sure it got there, I guess. https://www.vote.org/ballot-tracker-tools/ #WaterIsLife #FreePalestine #HousingFirst #Spokane #voting #apathy #politics #Scandal by @waterbuggyspokane
Thank you to everyone who came out for our Halloween trunk or treat! 🎃 We had a great time hanging out with the community and breaking bread 🍞 Our next distro will be November 21st at 7pm (6:30pm set up) at Bloom Psychiatry. With colder temperatures here, we could use your help with blankets, scarves, gloves, hand warmers and coats! If you have any donations, please reach out here, Facebook or shoot us an email at lilacmutualaid@proton.me. Thanks 😊 by @waterbuggyspokane
Tonight was a party. I fucked up and didn't get bread yesterday, so kind of fucked myself for the week. I think I will see if a food bank has bread or buns I can have. Or something. But tonite we had chips and cookies. People were happy about that of course, but they did want sandwiches or hot dogs. It's ok, because, fuck, we got SO much stuff from facebook. I ran out of gloves, but I still have socks and underwear and hats and lotion and a lot of other toiletries. We had a couple people who wanted to push and rush people through, but we didn't let that happen, and each person got to shop in the back of the car for whatever they wanted, and go through everything. It took a long time, but we were all joking around and having a good time with each other. About 30 people are running around downtown with socks on that say HAPPY HOLIDAYS MOTHER FLUFFER! and we were all saying that to each other and laughing. It was pretty fucking cold. I need to remember to stop wearing canvas shoes down there. Foot cramps suck. Well, I've come full circle now. I took hot dogs down once and immediately became the hot dog lady, so that meant I had to keep taking them, but tonight I didn't have any, and I heard someone go, "there's the hot dog lady," and someone corrected him and said, "HER NAME IS CY!" and made sure he learned my name. I was lol'ing, but also just falling more in love with the community down there and my place in it. The cop situation is dire. They are not allowed to sit still. They are moved and moved and moved. They left them alone if they were right close to my car, but all around, they were telling people to not be stationary, and threatening with arrest if they didn't get up and go. Didn't matter where, just go. They are exhausted down there. I'd have to do meth to live down there. There's no way I'd be able to physically exist down there otherwise. #WaterIsLife #FuckThePolice #FreePalestine #MutualAid #Spokane #MotherFluffers by @waterbuggyspokane
The second annual LMA ( @lilacmutualaid ) trunk or treat! This time at our new location. I love the location because it's well lit and we don't have the risk of being arrested for feeding folks there, but I do miss the crowd. Still, a lot of folks got food, candy, cocoa, harm reduction supplies, etc. And there were cool costumes, which I hope LMA has pics of on their account because I suck at all things picture-taking. I'm lucky when I remember to take my sideways incompetent shots lol. There were definitely cool costumes. And you definitely want to look at LMA's account for cooler better pics of the trunks. The water buggy was the candy buggy tonight. I also had flashlights and toothbrushes/toothpaste and narcan. But mostly a ton of that nom winco bulk candy special candy. Nom. Next to me is what I'll call the blanket buggy. :) @m3monarch_ brought a lot of those and nice winter clothes. And it was the first time we got to meet in person, though we've been crossing paths and scheming since the middle of September. Was so awesome to get to chat a bit and especially the huggin part. I look forward to doing lots more good shit with her in the future. :) It got so cold so fast. All of us were ready to go when we were done. Lucky us that we could go. Some folks bedded down right there in the parking lot. It's fucking brilliant that the person who's in charge of the parking lot won't call the pigs on them, but imagine spreading your blanket across concrete and lying down and calling that your bed for the night, while temps drop. That needs to not be a thing. People need to learn about housing first. There is utterly nothing else that will fix houselessness other than housing first. I mean...1+1. I mean, we have to fix all the other reasons people end up there, of course, but give them housing. Of their own. That they can lock. #WaterIsLife #HousingFirst #FreePalestine #Halloween #Spokane #Winter #MutualAid by @waterbuggyspokane
There's a free group on facebook that is a community. This is the second time I've asked for donations and they have and are coming through. This is some of the stuff they've given me and this is my car, stuffed, with still 2 donations to pick up!! Everyone was so excited, especially since most everyone needs gloves and socks and someone gave me EIGHTY pairs of gloves. So everyone got some. Everyone got socks. A buncha blankets. Coats. I'm blown away by the overwhelming generosity and care from that group. I still have about 30 people I'm talking to. One person even told me he would work on my cars for me when I went to pick up a donation at his house. Wow, community! Here's a story of the day, though. Night before last, I was wearing my kuffiyeh cuz tis the season, and someone asked me if it was a kuffiyeh and I said yes, and then I said "Free Palestine" and she said, "From the river to the sea" and this was after I tried to give her a sandwich, but she wasn't a homeless person or anyone who needed a sandwich. That made me smile so big and made me feel warm and fuzzy because the bottom line is that I do this for Palestine. That might sound weird, but I do it because I can't go to Palestine and do this, and Palestine changed me, molecularly, every part of me, and I can't do nothing anymore. I had years of that, of being sick and doing nothing. I'm still sick, but I have to do something, anything. Anyway, the person who I had that exchange with ended up posting on that facebook post. Asked me if I was the one. She has donations to give. I feel so hopeful right now. That's such a rare thing for me. But the outpouring of care from that group has me high. #WaterIsLife #HousingFirst #FreePalestine #SaferSource #Homelessness #Spokane #gloves #socks #lotion #blankets #winter by @waterbuggyspokane
The last of the bears. These have become SO popular. People don't even ask if I have hot dogs as much as they ask if I have cookies or bears! I wish I could find them bulk. Maybe I can. Best donation ever. Thank you, my babygirl! Since I'm down there 5x a week, you know I have stories, so I have to tell this one cuz I hurt myself laughing. I had a bin of clothes and this guy comes RUNNING up to me and asks me if I had any men's pants. I told him yes, but that they're more "slacks," not anything warm, kind of dress pants, and I show him and he says they are the perfect size, so he goes, "can I have them? There is a man in my car with no pants WHATSOEVER." lol. I said, "of course you can, but how did THAT happen?" and handed them to him. He yelled "I DON'T KNOW!" and took off running. It took me a while to catch my breath after that one. Anyway, we're doing pb&j sometimes too right now because I found peanut butter on a really good sale and had some jelly from another really good sale, and we always get the saturday $1 bread from the $1 wall from @franzbakery. I don't like it. It's too much work on my hands, and OCD doesn't like this type of shit, cuz it needs to be spread JUST right and I end up getting my other to make them. So I won't be doing that again after I'm done with these loaves of bread! The people love them, though. But before I close this, I have one more story. And this one made me cry. Tonight a guy asked me if he could have "extra bears" and I said of course and he said that they are really good comfort food cuz when he was little and was a good boy, his mom gave him these bears. I told him that he IS a good boy and his mama was right, and he ran away. Took me a minute to get past that one, too. I wish more people could see the humanity in the people down there instead of just the bullshit on social media. I wish they would go with me and witness this suffering so they would do more about it. #WaterIsLife #HousingFirst #FreePalestine #bears #pants #spokane #homelessness #humanity by @waterbuggyspokane

This isn't my house, I just had to snap a pic because of the color. My camera sucks, so it's not as brilliant as it was IRL, but take my word for it. It was glowing. Today ended up being a maintenance day: fueled and cleaned and restocked the fleet, tried to work on this wreck of a room, petted the kitties real hard. Still not getting enough sleep, so I took the day off from going downtown. I at least got a bag full of hoodies and a couple blankets. I'll post a before/after pic of the room if I ever get to an "after" state. I want to position the cars nicely for a pic so I can talk about them and what I do with each one. Today I got my first shipment of Narcan from the WA DOH Drug User Health Team. So I now have literally hundreds of doses of it. I can't leave it in the car since it's not supposed to freeze, so I'll have to form a new habit of taking it back and forth with me, but I am so glad to have it. I'm grateful to the people who have fought across this state and country to put Narcan in more and more hands (this includes you, my baby alien child!). I'm grateful to have and to be able to distribute such a life-saving tool that's so desperately needed. I'll be ready to roll tomorrow with some dogs and cookies and popsicles and WATER. I'll also have hoodies and blankets and hats and scarves, though I need to replenish my stock for those quickly. I need a nice steady source. #SaferSource #WaterIsLife #MutualAid #HousingFirst #FreePalestine #spokane #water #hotdogs #Narcan by @waterbuggyspokane
It is cold af tonight. Earlier today I got an awesome donations of blankets, and I decided to take them out late tonight with some cookies and water. It's a good thing I did. I was able to help people in ways I haven't before. A sex worker needed a blanket to wrap up in while she waited. A man was lost and couldn't figure out where he was supposed to stay tonight, so he got the biggest blanket and settled down with some water and cookies to sleep it off and maybe figure out where to go tomorrow. A couple who'd lost their blanket the night before because it got soaked in the rain got a new one. A guy I know who had been robbed and had nothing at least got a nice big comfy blanket to curl up into until he could get moving tomorrow and start getting things he needed. I can go on and on. Some people just needed some water tonight. This was a different type of experience for me. I'm gonna do it again. And again and again. I need more blankets. I need for thrift stores to stop wasting blankets by sending their less than perfect ones to landfills and recycling (i'm looking at you global neighborhood thrift. you are being stingy and greedy and this is not your mission). It's cold, it's so fuckin cold. I made a place for spontaneous mutual aid. This channel and group is not for things that need a lot of planning, just stuff like, "It's fuckin cold, I'm gonna take blankets down" "Cool, I'll bake these biscuits that are in my fridge and meet you at State street" or "air quality is bad, I'm going to take masks down for them" "cool, I have a box too, meet you at the park" or "I just got a shit ton of peaches, I'm going to cut them up and go give them away" "Cool, I will come help." or "I know this lady who needs groceries, I'm going to take her some pasta." "Can you stop by here and pick up some sauce on your way?" Etc. teamwork with quickly made teams. Mutual aid.
