It’s National Wattle Day!

The day we celebrate Australia’s official floral emblem.
The beautiful blooms that inspired our green and gold team colours.

Wattle trees survive harsh droughts, strong winds and bushfires. They are among the first plants to grow back after fire, mirroring the resilient spirit of the Australian people.

Did you know there are more than 1,000 species of wattle growing across Australia?

Wattle has also been an incredibly useful plant for generations. Some wattle seeds can be used to make flour and wattle seed breads, while bark and leaves have traditional medicinal uses. The pods and leaves have also been used as antiseptics, and the timber has been used to craft hunting tools and musical instruments.

Such a beautiful and useful tree.

And now, one particular wattle has inspired the name of our little corner of the world.

Wattle Acres.

So today, as we welcome the first day of spring, I thought it was the perfect time to celebrate the tree that gave us our name.
