2H to find him. HB to understand him. 4B to give him depth. 8B and 10B to show what he’s carried.

Black, white, and a whole lot of second-guessing.

Watching myself appear in greyscale, layer by layer. No color to hide behind. Just shadows, mistakes, and fixing them.

Oil pastels don’t forgive. Neither did I on this one.

Not a phase. This is just my favorite human in pastel form.

Halfway through, I asked myself: Why did I choose oil pastels? Why not something easy like pencils? Or a stick figure?

Then I remembered. She doesn’t give up on me. I don’t give up on her. Or this drawing.

The messy start is real. So is the finish line. 🎨✋
